A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 8/15/02

President Bush headed to South Dakota today to promote his economic and homeland security packages. In a speech in front of Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, Bush called for congress to act quickly on the proposed cabinet-level position of homeland defense. The President also stated that the current homeland package proposed from the Senate strips him of authority to exempt agencies from collective bargaining requirements if national security demands it. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

Oh, my goodness! The Reagan quote, I assume rather than the scripture.
Actually, the credit for that should go to Freedom'sWorthIt ..... she kept posting it on appropriate threads and I finally copied it so that I would have it handy ...... and have used it often.

"I don't believe that the Twit knows the meaning of the word gracious or statesman, as he must have knocked over a few senior citz, rushing to a mic, to start his trashing of GW. What a contrast between the two!!"The democRATS are taking their orders from the DNC (Terry McAuliffe) and I believe it's gonna cost them big time. 4 incumbant democRAT Senators are trailing in the polls and 2 Republicans incumbants are trailing, When you factor in the bias of these polls I would venture to say the DemocRATS are cooking their own goose with all the divisiveness and trashing of the President.
I hope the RATS keep it up, So far all they've done is hurt themselves

I saw Marc Racicot on John Gibson's Big Story this afternoon. The difference between Racicot and McAuliffe is amazing. One is a person of breeding, quality and intelligence. The other oozes sleaze, corruption and hate.

Oh, okay, so Daschle was there. Here's a quote from AP about today:
The White House invited Daschle to the event, and Bush went out of
his way to welcome him in opening remarks. But Bush also shouted at
times, and seemed to look directly at Daschle occasionally, as he
outlined an agenda that Daschle has frequently bottled up on Capitol Hill.

"Big government by its very nature is government that intrudes in people's lives, usurps their rights and responsibilities and confiscates their money. There is nothing conservative about any of this. Regardless of how benevolent and well-meaning its intentions are, government expands almost entirely for the purpose of controlling and regulating the lives of its citizens. Each act of government, each law passed, each regulation written is a step toward limiting the freedom of some one or some group or some organization or some business or industry. Granted, some of these steps may be necessary but most of them are not. So let's not kid ourselves. If conservatives are people who put freedom ahead of security and individual rights ahead of government control, then it must follow that they are opposed to big government. This being the case, a policy of 'big government conservatism' is merely an excuse for wayward conservatives to justify moving leftward and anyone who denies this is an ignoramus, a fool or a hypocrite." --Lyn Nofziger

The only way to properly describe a debate between McAuliffe and Raciot is "Trash vs Class"

I wish a camera had captured him squirming in front of his constituents. The President isn't afraid of a fight, and Daschle has met his match.

Hi homeschool mama, long time no freep (between you and me, that is). I agree that these are lovely pictures, but they got me to thinking...I try not to do that, but I couldn't help it this time. My cousin came to visit me and we went for a walk to the Lincoln Memorial. At we gazed in awe at the old fellow I asked, "Do you think he would've wanted to be memorialized in such a grandiose way, if at all?" And my cousin replied, "No, he wouldn't have. That's why he's up there." That was quite an epiphany for me. Real statesmen aren't obsessed with their legacy. They take their office seriously, but they don't take themselves so seriously, because they know that in God's eyes we are all the same. As much as we would love for there to be a statue of him someday, or a ship named after him, etc., I don't think Bush is too concerned about it. He'd rather focus on the work that needs to be done today than what it will mean for him tomorrow. That marvelous attitude toward leadership is a legacy in itself.
To: homeschool mama
Agreed. I'm thinking this president has a place reserved right up there with the others.

Omigosh, that is a great first pic. You guys are right, Reagan and GW would be a great addition to Mt. Rushmore. Do you think we could have another natural erosion event to produce that result? (Remember, Cher thought Mt. Rushmore was caused by mother nature, LOL).

I think the following has been on the dose before, not too long after 9-11-01, but I thought many might enjoy reading it again. I apologise for the length.......
THE SALUTE
>
>
>Have you noticed a difference in the salute given by our
>military men and women as President Bush walks by? Most folks would not
>notice anything, but military people see it right away. Watch: When
>President Bush leaves his helicopter or Air Force One, the honor guards
>salute and face him as he disembarks, then turn their faces towards him
>as he passes by. They continue to salute his back as he walks away. This
>kind of salute has not been seen in the previous eight years, though it
>is customary courtesy to the Commander-in-Chief. You see, soldiers aren't
>required to turn and face the President as they salute. They are not
>required to salute his back. They are only required to salute. They can
>remain face-forward the entire time. And that is what they did during
>Bill Clinton's entire Presidency. Our soldiers were forced to obey
>Clinton's orders, but they were not forced to respect him. From their
>salutes, we can surmise that they did not. Why is such respect afforded
>to President Bush? He doesn't even know how to bite his lower lip and not
>get teary-eyed whenever he speaks! The following incident from Major
>General Van Antwerp may give us an insight. Gen. Antwerp is president of
>the Officers' Christian Fellowship. He lost nearly all his staff when the
>Pentagon was attacked Sept. 11. His executive officer LTC Brian Birdwell
>was badly burned and in the hospital when President Bush visited him. Our
>President spent time and prayed with Brian. As he was getting ready to
>leave, he went to the foot of Brian's bed and saluted. He held his salute
>until Brian was able to raise his burned and bandaged arm, ever so
>slowly, in return. The Commander-in-Chief never initiates a salute,
>except in the case of a Congressional Medal of Honor winner. The injured
>soldier did not have to return the salute. But he did, out of respect to
>his President--a soldiers' President. Congressman JC Watts (R. Oklahoma)
>said, "Character is doing the right thing when nobody is looking." The
>nation and world learned some of what our last President did when nobody
>was looking. That President has been disbarred this week--the worst
>disgrace (other than imprisonment) to a lawyer. CNN will have a difficult
>time shining his or his wife's tarnished images. In this time of war and
>danger, I am so grateful to have a President whom the soldiers
>salute--fully. On Special Report with Brit Hume, (hosted by Jim Angle
>this evening), at the close of the show when they normally have some
>funny video clip, they showed President Bush and the First Lady on their
>way to Marine One to leave for Camp David for the weekend. As the video
>starts, the First Lady is leading the way into the helicopter with the
>spaniel dog on the leash, and the President is right behind her with the
>Scottie on the leash. As the First Lady entered the chopper, the Marine
>at the gangway saluted and held his salute. The Scottie the President was
>walking decided it wanted to squat right when he got to the steps. The
>President pulled on its leash, but the stubborn Scottie persisted in
>squatting. The President bent down and scooped up the pooch and entered
>Marine One. After he entered, the Marine cut his salute and returned to
>the position of attention. Moments later the President emerged from the
>helicopter and out onto the steps. The Marine was standing at attention,
>head and eyes straight ahead. The President leaned over and tapped him on
>the left arm. The startled Marine turned his body toward the President
>and received his returned salute! I was so impressed by this true act of
>respect for our military people by our President! He really does get it.
>Most any other person of his stature would have just continued his
>journey, disregarding the neglected return salute. Not George W. Bush. He
>is earning the respect of the military community, not expecting it--as
>most have and would. Please take a moment after you read this to pray
>for the President. He truly does have the weight of the world on his
>shoulders. Pray that God will sustain him and give him wisdom and
>discernment in his decisions. Pray for his protection and that of his
>family. After you have prayed, send this to everyone on your e-mail list.
>Our President needs Christians around the world to be praying for him.
>As this makes the e-mail rounds, eventually there could literally be
>millions of people praying for him.

Stunning pixes -- and yes, W belongs up there with the other great leaders!
For more pixes of today's event, visit
http://www.argusleader.com/gallery/2002/president2/
Perhaps one of our awesome 'picture posters' could post some of these pixes here?!
Video is also available at the above site or at
http://www.ksfy.com/
NOTE: If you visit the ksfy site you will notice that the media and Daschle are trying to create controversy over the President's decision to avoid further deficit spending by providing SD farmers/ranchers with even more financial assistance than already included in the VERY generous Farm Bill. [NOTE: The President and Thune want to use some creative bailout strategies that won't hurt the economy; Daschle, of course, favors strategies that will hurt the economy (and in his warped mind) help the RATS!]

Here's a cute one. Kind of begs for a caption, though.
To: McLynnan
"Was Daschle actually there? I didn't hear W mention his name, but I tuned in a few minutes late. I heard him thank several people, but not Tom Thumb."
Oh, yes, Daschle was there and our gutsy president said what was on his mind..... I'd say the president has just about had it with the dems.
"With the stern granite faces of four presidents gazing down from the Mount Rushmore monument, Bush suggested the Senate was placing dangerous limits on his ability to protect the nation through the planned 170,000-strong agency whose creation he proposed after the Sept. 11 attacks.
"I need the flexibility to be able to look at the American people and say we're doing everything we can to protect the homeland against an enemy that hates us," Bush said forcefully to an audience that included Daschle. -snip-
Bush also used his visit to the 60-foot (18 meter) busts of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln carved into Mount Rushmore to promote Rep. John Thune of South Dakota, a fellow Republican running in a tight race for the Senate in the Nov. 5 election.
The president hopes Thune will beat Sen. Tim Johnson, who also attended the speech, helping the Republicans retake the Senate and tossing Daschle from the majority leader's office.
"I appreciate you leadership and your friendship," Bush told Thune at the start of his speech.
