How many of your beloved wild animals are killed by these feral cats each year?

Sungirl.
I am a blubbering fool now after that story. All my animals stay inside and have been spayed and neutered, but I worry so much about all the abandoned animals. I know the names of most of the animals that live in the vicinity of my house and look out for them.

We had a feral cat living in the neighborhood that someone left it behind when they moved and my neighbor and I fed it. My neighbor had been there longer than us and she had already been feeding it and had it fixed. It died last year and stayed unapproachable, but at least it had good food to eat and lived many years without bothering anyone.

My mom just found a 3 week kitten in her backyard and is taking it in--she has no idea where it came from. It took her several tries before she caught it. It was scared to death.

I'm with Sungirl--there is NO excuse for animal cruelty (that includes shooting them for trespassing!)and the problem is with the HUMAN owners.

You are delusional about feral cats and live in a la-la land.

What a great example of an intelligent, insightful remark! It lifts the quality of the discussion to new heights, certainly.

I like cats. I've always had at least one as a pet, and I have one now that I'm very fond of.

That said, the surest way of controlling feral cats it a with a .22 rifle. One well-placed bullet and it's all over. You terrorize a wild cat when you trap it and take it to be sterilized. You inflict pain with the veterinarian's knife. No, it's far more humane to drop it in its tracks.

I never expect delusional people to recognize that they have that lack in their life.

I hope you shoot the wrong cat one day....one someone owns. Someone like me.

Perhaps you shouldn't let your cat roam free. Cats that are allowed outside have an average lifespan of three years, as opposed to 11 for cats that are kept indoors. Letting your cat outdoors seems rather negligent, seeing as how it exposes the animal to numerous hazards. Letting one's cat outside is a nuisance in an urban or suburban setting. Domestic cats wreak havoc on local songbird populations, as I found out first hand. Are you a specieist?

Love your cat; keep it indoors!

Hello Neutrino,
The statement from Mr. Wayne applies to the human race.Unlike you (I assume from your post to me) and other posters, I don't put animals on the same level as humans, cause they're not. I feel a little funny having to explain that to you.
As far as my "two great kids" (strange to put that in quotation marks, maybe some sarcasm there?) go, don't you worry about 'em. They know how to take care of their cats, house cats. My two great kids know that ferrel cats are destructive because they've seen it first hand, they had rabbit(meat rabbits, Oh my God not raising those cute rabbits to be killed and eaten) pens raided by a couple of the mange infested things before. They've also seen ferrel cats get wild rabbits, young ones. Not to mention numerous bird nests around the around the hood.
As far as the seeing the reality of that lesson, I see it. Or, would you like to explain what you mean? (It could be taken in a couple of differnt ways.) I taught it. I was taught by a good man. I passed it on. My great kids don't have to depend on going to the grocery store if they don't choose too. (I know, the HORROR, someone has taught their kids to hunt and fish, Oh My..)
I know that my great kids have more knowledge about the mechanics of nature than most of these ignorant bleeding heart PETA posters do.
I apologize to you in advance if you take offense But impression is ya intend to offend.

Man are you ignorant. So.. I'm a liberal because I love cats and that means I am responsible for the forest fires? What turnip truck did you fall off of. I hate to tell you but there are many conservatives who would kill for their pets. You are heartless...is that your idea of a conservative?

I feed ferals too. Two of them that live behind this drug store at first hissed at me and looked mean for at least a month. Today..I clean the ones ears while he purrs nonstop...and I can pick the little tailess female up and hold her while she purrs. These were so-called WILD cats. Up North I fed them too.... one was born outside...mean and scary looking....after a good few months...she is a sweet loving kitty now..loves to be petted. All it took was some patience and trust. Almost ALL FERALS can be turned around. MOST FERALS were first housecats but came to distrust people since there were abandoned and left for dead. Feral cats can be great pets for people who understand and have patience. I have a EX-feral living in my house..she is the sweetest little thing...I am so glad she was living behind my shed...she is a godsend. I wish people would help ferals instead of calling them a problem...catch them get them fixed, get them the shots...they were born and deserve to finish a halfway decent life. Help them....and dont' look at them as a problem. Nobody better ever try to trap these two cats behind the drugstore unless they intend to help them.........they should not have them destroyed for being homeless.

PS. Sungirl is a fraud who supports a way of life and thought that also agrees it is OK to KILL your children up to 2 years old.

Oh brother...how long are you going to repeat this? I remember Howard Stern saying that he believes you should be able to kill your kids up to 5 or 10 years old...IT'S A JOKE. WHat a bubblehead. Do you have any education? Or you just one of those people who think they are a conservative because they want to own a gun and kill things when they want. You're the fraud...not to mention a complete idiot.

I agree with you! Uncaring people are the real problem. Maybe some of these people would benifit from the .22 solution.

Cats are intelligent and sensitive creatures. They have as much right to be here as the cat haters!

Yes Terriergal...do you teach this to your 7 and 10 year old daughters when you say you take them outside to kill the squirrels in your yard that attempt to go in your garden? I still can't get over that. Do you make sure your daughters get that "clean shot" to the head when they shoot your rifles?

You do know most of her stuff is made up don't you?

Umm...you want to back that up? You seem awfully desperate making up crap like this to try to get people to look at me different. What's the matter? You afraid of me?

We have very few feral cats where I live - they quickly become midnight snacks for the coyotes and foxes.
