US may seize Arab airports by force to attack Iraq: report
Mon Aug 12 2002 14:19:02 ET
BEIRUT, Aug. 12 (Xinhua)--Lebanon received a report from diplomatic sources saying that the United States would seize by force several airports in Arab states when it launches a war against Iraq, the An Nahar newspaper reported on Monday.
The report said that US President George W. Bush would unleash the military offensive in January 2003 as he has to wait the outcome of the midterm elections of the Congress in November. ``Bush prefers to have Arab support for his war to remove Iraqi president Saddam Hussein and the US forces would have facilities in several neighboring Arab airports,'' the report said.
''At any rate,'' it stressed, ``once zero hour comes, Bush will give the orders to use Arab airports by force for the military operation against Iraq if the need arises.'' Bush argued that without the US interference, the Arab countries, the Arab League and the UN Security Council would not have been able to oust the invading Iraqi troops from Kuwait in the 1991 Gulf War.
Meanwhile, the report revealed that the Bush administration has allowed Israel to strike back in the upcoming confrontation against Iraq if the Arab country fires Scud missiles at Israel like it did in 1991.
The report suggested that the Arab world should take the US war preparations against Iraq ``very seriously'' and recommended a diplomatic offensive by Lebanon to consolidate Pan-Arab camp.
Developing...
Exactly..
Who do you think would jump in if Israel deceided to strike back (or even launched a pre-emptive strike against known Scud launchers). Just curious.
I'd laugh, if only too many Americans didn't share that warped view. We can only go it alone for so long. If we unite the rest of the world against us, we will be destroyed.
If I recall correctly, pride was to go before the Fall.
Good point. ;^)
Besides, we don't need their help to oust Saddam. We can weather the bad PR much better than they cand AND if THEY DO hit back and take out some of our people in the process we wouldn't like that very much. They are in no position to alienate us, nor should they want to.
Israel should sit it out and let us do the heavy lifting on this. It will benefit us both in short order.
Yeah, we're so brutal compared to Saddam, a guy who nerve-gassed his own people, brutally murdered (by the hundreds, in public) anybody who could be remotely characterized as a political opponent, and orchestrated rape, torture, murder, and the theft of BILLIONS of dollars from Kuwaiti citizens.
That's it! Nobody hated Nazi Germany or Stalinist Russia, because they were feared. Lets follow in their footsteps!
This argument brought to you by Sabertooth, DrBS (Doctor of revisionist Bull Excrement)
No one wants a regional wide conflict when dealing with Saddam (cept' the Muslims.. they would LOVE it.)
Bush can't tell Israel not to respond to WMD-tipped SCUDs, nor should they hesitate to do so.
Some Muslims might think they want a pan-Arabic conflict... but it would go far better for us than for them. We should not fear giving them the war they're just begging for. They should learn fear.
While a wider conflict would generate more casualties for us in the short-run than a limited one, a more thorough defeat of Islam now would be better for America and the world for decades to come.
Otherwise, the Muslim problem simply continues to fester, as the Clash of Civilizations is procrastinated.
Meanwhile, we are distracted from China.
And probably VERY EFFECTIVE Propaganda..
Nothing to boil Muslim blood like a joint effort of behalf of the worlds worst infidels. (US and them Jooooz! Oh My!)
Iran is about to be surrounded by pro-US regimes anyway (Iraq/Afghanistan) - it's either face them now or shortly in the future when they could strike with nukes.
(allegedly a more effective version of the Patriot)
IMHO, they should sit it out.
An excellent point, as well as one that people will care less and less about when they realize that doing the right thing with regard to Taiwan will impact the US economy.
I predict allot of calls to just let China go for the sake of trade.
