US may seize Arab airports by force to attack Iraq: report
Mon Aug 12 2002 14:19:02 ET
BEIRUT, Aug. 12 (Xinhua)--Lebanon received a report from diplomatic sources saying that the United States would seize by force several airports in Arab states when it launches a war against Iraq, the An Nahar newspaper reported on Monday.
The report said that US President George W. Bush would unleash the military offensive in January 2003 as he has to wait the outcome of the midterm elections of the Congress in November. ``Bush prefers to have Arab support for his war to remove Iraqi president Saddam Hussein and the US forces would have facilities in several neighboring Arab airports,'' the report said.
''At any rate,'' it stressed, ``once zero hour comes, Bush will give the orders to use Arab airports by force for the military operation against Iraq if the need arises.'' Bush argued that without the US interference, the Arab countries, the Arab League and the UN Security Council would not have been able to oust the invading Iraqi troops from Kuwait in the 1991 Gulf War.
Meanwhile, the report revealed that the Bush administration has allowed Israel to strike back in the upcoming confrontation against Iraq if the Arab country fires Scud missiles at Israel like it did in 1991.
The report suggested that the Arab world should take the US war preparations against Iraq ``very seriously'' and recommended a diplomatic offensive by Lebanon to consolidate Pan-Arab camp.
Developing...
It's not true, but if it were:
Yes it does change things, and for the worse.. Israel should sit this one out.
No one wants a regional wide conflict when dealing with Saddam (cept' the Muslims.. they would LOVE it.)
"Well, GOLL-OLLL-LLEE! Looks like the infidels jest landed out in the middle of nowhere, Saudi Arabia, set themselves up an airport, flew in their troops, and, gosh-dern, we never laid eyes on 'em! Then they took down Saddam, and left via Basra. Shucks and all that. Looks like they done snookered us, y'all. Insh'allah, I reckon."
If so, there is not much need to seize other ones.
However, bombing the leadership of Iran and Syria and killing the top 10 levels of Mullahs and Dictators in Iran and Syria would provide a lot of airports in those two countries.
Here is the link to the thread about Turkey seizing the airport in N. Iraq: (The countdown is on for the US attack on Iraq. Turkey has taken position in Northern Iraq in a blitz. As concerns of an imminent US attack on Iraq grow day by day, Turkey has secured the Critical Bamerni airport in Northern Iraq. )
Seize everything in sight.
It doesn't matter if the whole world hates us.
We didn't start this, they did on Sept. 11th! But we will finish it.
I don't wonder at all: It's because we're the wealthiest, most powerful, most compassionate and most free country in history, a beacon of freedom, a shining city on a hill, a constant rebuke to the tyrants of the world. Meanwhile, Saudis drive improperly-dressed schoolgirls back into a burning dormitory; Pakistanis sentence a woman to be raped because her brother held hands with an upper-class girl; Nigerians stone a pregnant woman to death for adultery. I can readily guess the kind of America such people would like more, but I have no interest in living there. So, since we're going to be hated anyway, we must ensure that we are also feared.
Oderint dum metuant.
It's propaganda.
Think about this from a Muslim pov.
(Americans grabbing everything in sight.. Jews (SHREEK!) helping them! Oh MY! What would Allah say?)
Israel has every right to strike back. They had 40 Scuds launched at their people during round 1. If they had known that Saddam wasn't going to be removed, and that they would have to face this threat again, would they have been so nice? Would you? He's probably going to top this round of Scuds with something juicier than conventional warheads - it's almost a given.
To my way of thinking, it was Saudis that seized American civilian planes on 9/11 and drove them into the WTF. Turn anout is fair play, we use their airfields to send our ordinance down on Iraq.
Truth be told, this article sounds like so much B. Streisand to me. Drudge should check his sources a little, he's been burned in the past.
My point is simply that restraint would benefit them and us both. Saddam IS leaving this time and, I assume a pro-american (And by extension a pro-israel) government will be put in his place.
The last thing anyone needs at this point is a regional conflict. Just let them hunker down and we will take care of the rest with our guys and our hardware.
KICK THEIR A$$ES AND GRAB THEIR GAS!

Let them explain and use "Show and Tell" to those who would harm and kill us what the realities will be. The world would be a safer place in a few months.
