SHOCKER!
Farouk Murad the former U.N. employee accused of aggravated battery and assault on a minor in a Marco Island Hilton was a no show in court this morning after promising authorities he was going to show up. Murad's attorney entered a not guilty plea for him.
The mother of the girl was quite angry she wasn't notified and spent the morning looking for him and to no avail NOTHING.
The Naples Daily News will be doing a story on this due for release after midnight. Murad had reportedly offered a money settlement before leaving the country but it was denied.
Stay tuned.....

Is anyone surprized by this? I think not.
Make that stupid judge who didn't take the perps passport do his time.

GASP!!
I'm shocked. Knock me over with a feather, MFH!
Actually I'm relieved. I had promised to eat a pair of tennis shoes with a knife and fork if this guy actually showed up.

Please elaborate on this "money settlement", if you can. I'm surprised he has any cash left after making bail...

Did you go? Get info from the reporter?

Got the info from someone at the court and a call with Janine. Story is as stated...the guy was a no show and people are pissed.

Correct me if I am wrong, but is it not true that a defendant does not need to show up for a plea? And, is this not normal to do this?
Just asking.............

I suppose Farouk Murad is out of the country, but where? Did he leave the country legally?
Now I'm beginning to remember the details: the judge, the stupid judge let him walk.
What was the stoopid judge's name?
To: My Favorite Headache
Great job. I hope the story will talk about his relationship with the victim - apparently he was a "longtime friend of the girl's family."
Here's a refresher of his law enforcement/anti-terror background:

No he did not have to show up to enter a plea. His lawyer did it for him. But he promised the judge and authorities he would be back to enter it...right before he left he decided to settle what is turning out to be a civil suit against him as well from what I am hearing.

A pay-off to the family? Ted Kennedy set the precident for that. Question is how much the judge got.

We-have-no-extradition-treaty-with-Saudi religion-of-peace bump.
I guess we can at least be sure this guy will not be returning to the UN. Is there any way the New York authorities can be forced to extradite him if he does show up in NYC?
To: My Favorite Headache
He may find the reception in Saudi Arabia a little hotter than it was here in the states. They don't treat rapists kindly there......
To: aristeides
He's retired from his UN duties, fortunately.
You'll never GUESS what UN committee he worked on. Go ahead. Just take a shot in the dark.

Update.
To: aristeides
What? And the Saudis are supposed to be our beloved allies!
To: hellinahandcart
Something to do with criminal law, I believe. I forget the exact name of the committee.
