The soon-to-retire Texan, a former economics professor, has combined a folksy charm with a consistent and passionate defense of tax cuts and limited government.

In 1994, he was a chief architect of the Contract With America, which helped Republicans win control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years.

if we attack Iraq without making the case for it, we're going to see Europe damn us for years to come. That's one more reason why I've got no stomach for it.

As far as I am concerned, the Euroweeniews can take a flying leap! Are they willing to go to nuclear war with the US to save Saddam? I don't think so!! The EU types will hate us unless we are all dead, or they need us again!

I don't know if I can totally trust a guy who quotes Dennis Miller's military policy statements. Heh heh heh...

As a guy who holds Europe in very little esteme, I sure understand where you're coming from. We'll see how this plays out. By the time we take action I may be on board. In principle I have no problem with the US taking military action in self-protection. If Saddam is revealed to have crossed some rubicon, I'll join you guys.

As Dennis Miller said on the Leno show, 'WE DON'T WANT TO KNOW!' I have enough trust in the President to believe that he has a good reason to attack Iraq, and that disclosing the details would harm the country. As it says: 'Loose lips sink ships'. By the way, is there any evidence you can provide to falsify my theory.

Ever heard the term "self-governing republic"? Didn't think so.

You'd a done well in Stalin's hell or Hitler's hell. "I don't want to think I don't want to know. I just want to trust our great leader." Weird. Why are you on a self-confessed "conservative" website with such bizarre, totalitarian tendencies? I think you need re-education.

Robert Bork in this month's "American Spectator" said that the simultaneous explosion of 20 nuclear devices in American cities would end civilization as we know it. The problem with compact WMDs is that if you can get one in you can smuggle in a dozen. Why would an enemy attack one city and stir up a hornets nest when the enemy could attack many?

Does anyone doubt for a moment that if Sadam could distribute WMDs to certain groups anonymously, he would?

What is surreal about this is that our government as of yet seems not to be taking this threat seriously. We still have unabated illegal immigration and containers daily enter the country uninspected. We cannot keep our open borders, free access, no questions asked society performing business as usual without inviting disaster.

Like it or not, things have to change. Attacking the threat at the source is good but real defence must include real homeland security.

I read Lucius's comment on trusting
Bush & Cheney as a positive assessment
of the men, especially as opposed to
Clinton & Gore. I also see Rumsfeld,
Wolfowitz, Rice & Powell as markedly
better people & advisors than the past
bunch. My last take is that Lucius is
saying he'd trust their views over any
FReeper's contrary views. I am so sure
he isn't Hitlerian or Stalinist in his
attitudes. Sickos that they were, evil
& twisted etc. etc. Lucius seems like
a good guy.

I'm for the real homeland security. I doubt Hussein's first attempt would find him in posession of twelve mini-nukes though. But that doesn't mean he wouldn't be capable of developing a larger device or two.

I am sure he is not at his core. But it begins when you start thinking totalitarian thoughts. Then the cancer spreads. You think those guys took over overnight? It starts with relinquishing the idea of self-government and embracing "the leaders". It has happened throughout history. And the outcome is always bad.

You'd a done well in Stalin's hell or Hitler's hell.

If you seriously consider President Bush to be in any way equivalent to Stalin or Hitler, then you are in a class with that former freeper who departed the earth in Massillon, Ohio over the weekend.

A fringe freeper (few posts). See 'Massillon officer killed: Armed motorist also dies in shootout' ('http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/731143/posts')

I am not giving the administration a free pass on every thing they do! As someone who supported Keyes in the primary that is hardly likely. That is my evaluation of the current crisis.

Kick their ass and take their gas. Have the Turks administer the North of Iraq and get a piece of the oil action. Set up a moderate regime south of this. We get $5/barrel oil from them for the next 10 years to pay for this war.

If the Saudis squawk then we invade them too and tear down Mecca piece by piece and dynamite the Kabba. 100 D10 bulldozers should do the trick in a few weeks. Blow up the prince's palaces and the Saudi people will rise up as one to thank the United States for ridding them of these perverts and parasites.

Dude, I was going to say something polite to you, but seeing as you called me "in a class" with a disgusting cop killer: you can bite me you creep.

You ever been at LF spouting creepy Eastern European style anti-Semitism? And I have not been in the military.

No. One would have to be an anti-semite to spout antisemitism.

And I have not been in the military.

Didn't think so. No wonder you talk so tough. It's easy from an armchair.

I told the truth about the military and you lied about what drek you post over at LF. Figures!

There are plenty of former military who want us to smash Saddam Hussein. So me not having served is a non-issue. A lot of your "pacifist" buddies at LF never were military either.
