I thought he was going to finish his term. He's got a couple of movies in the works, too.

I do not have a name, but I think we need some one who creates honest debate. The NRA only seems to say we need guns for sporting. I hate to tell them but we have no constitutional right to use guns for sporting, we have a right to own guns to defend against bad government and such. If you do not believe me you need to read the constitutional debates, you will find that some of the parties suggested that hunting be included in what became the seconed ammendment. check the Pennsylvania Minority Dec. 18, 1787

I think Selleck is a very good idea. He's honorable, intelligent, and conservative. However, since Heston is planning on finishing his term, why not see whom he appears to be grooming to offer as his replacement?

In the Judeo-Christian civilization it it customary not to bury a person while he is alive. Rationalism of your actions is not justified.

From NRA Bylaws:

"...The Board shall elect from among its own members a President and one (1) or more Vice Presidents." Art.4,sec.2.

"...The President may not succeed himself or herself more than once, after being elected to serve a full term, except that Charlton Heston may succeed himself as President a second time for the term commencing in the year 2000 and ending in the year 2001." Art.5 sec.1

At last springs convention, Mr. Heston was granted another term in office. He serves at the Boards pleasure. They and they alone have the power to grant him another term as NRA Pres. if they so desire. Petition means nothing, other than an expression of opinion.

NRA needs a sexy female leader. That would tend to defuse the soccer mommies and give gun ownership a kinder, gentler face. parsy the master strategist.

Besides his passion for the second amendment, Heston was more difficult to demonize than other potential spokesmen. People knew him, knew of him at least, and respected many aspects of his life beyond the NRA. He cannot be replaced, but hopefully another can bring a different set of abilities to the table and continue protecting our rights.

But if you want to influence who becomes the next spokesman, I would suggest that you join the NRA.

Selleck, M Gibson. Coulter would be too divisive I think. What the NRA needs is a credible, personable, likeable statesman who is also a good salesman. Because in the end, that's what you're doing to the public, selling your position. Soccer moms and liberals need someone they don't immediately dismiss as a raving lunatic, someone they might secretly want to sleep with to come on the air waves and tell them in a calm voice that Americans have a right and a duty to arm themselves and to stay armed. Not just for sport, not just for self defense, not just for collecting...

Anyway, before I start to ramble- M Gibson, T Selleck would be my first choices. Followed by lots of television commercials starring them.

General Norman Schwarzkopf might be a good spokesman (President) for the NRA.

Lose La Pierre. I have been a life member since 1978, la Pierre is a disgrace.
