Charlton Heston must step down. Who should step up?

With the recent announcement by Charleton Heston that he has Alzheimer's and, as a result, will have to give up his position as President of the National Rifle Association, someone will have to be nominated to the Presidency. As this is primarily a PR position, I nominate Tom Celek in the hope that should he accept, he will credit Rosie O'Donnell for his decision
Shall we petition the NRA to ask that Celek be considered? Here's an example of an on-line petition we could build.

I thought he was going to finish his term. He's got a couple of movies in the works, too.

I do not have a name, but I think we need some one who creates honest debate. The NRA only seems to say we need guns for sporting. I hate to tell them but we have no constitutional right to use guns for sporting, we have a right to own guns to defend against bad government and such. If you do not believe me you need to read the constitutional debates, you will find that some of the parties suggested that hunting be included in what became the seconed ammendment. check the Pennsylvania Minority Dec. 18, 1787

I think Selleck is a very good idea. He's honorable, intelligent, and conservative. However, since Heston is planning on finishing his term, why not see whom he appears to be grooming to offer as his replacement?

In the Judeo-Christian civilization it it customary not to bury a person while he is alive. Rationalism of your actions is not justified.

On a side note, Charlton Heston and I, along with Ann Margaret and Donald Rumsfeld, are graduates of the same high school, New Trier, East in Winnetka, Illinois. According to school lore, Heston was once suspended for riding a motorcycle through the hallways and into the swimming pool. This was considered Heston's first attempt at parting a body of water.
My prayers are with Mr. Heston and his family and may God grant them the stregth to see it through with dignity.

From NRA Bylaws:
"...The Board shall elect from among its own members a President and one (1) or more Vice Presidents." Art.4,sec.2.
"...The President may not succeed himself or herself more than once, after being elected to serve a full term, except that Charlton Heston may succeed himself as President a second time for the term commencing in the year 2000 and ending in the year 2001." Art.5 sec.1
At last springs convention, Mr. Heston was granted another term in office. He serves at the Boards pleasure. They and they alone have the power to grant him another term as NRA Pres. if they so desire. Petition means nothing, other than an expression of opinion.

NRA needs a sexy female leader. That would tend to defuse the soccer mommies and give gun ownership a kinder, gentler face. parsy the master strategist.
