Lisa Beamer spoke at a Women of Faith conference earlier this year. I was unable to attend, but several of my friends from church did. They say that it was difficult to categorize her ‘speech’ as such. She seemed somewhat ill at ease at first (probably because of her obvious humility), but, as she gradually loosened up, they say that her faith lit up the assembly. When she spoke you could hear a pin drop, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the place.

…. he stepped into the aisle of that plane, trusting by faith that regardless of what happened, God would be true to His Word.

That is what moved Todd Beamer to do what he did. And that is what no doubt keeps Lisa going. Is there anything more secure upon which to hang one’s hope?

No matter how many ‘successes’ the terrorists of this world enjoy, it is the faith embraced by the Todd and Lisa Beamers of this world that will determine victory in the end. And madmen bent on human destruction will know nothing of that greatest victory of all.

What a good looking family. Makes me want to just hug the whole bunch of 'em. I just happened to think since I have grandbabies, some of which are about the same ages as these two, I hope the grandparents are nearby. Given the character of the Beamers, I suspect THEIR parents' will be a blessing for the little ones as well.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - "Are you guys ready? Let's roll!" is an expression Todd Beamer used whenever his wife and two young sons were leaving their home for a family outing.
The 32-year-old businessman and Sunday school teacher said the same thing before he and other passengers apparently took action against hijackers aboard United Airlines Flight 93 on Tuesday, shortly before the plane crashed in a western Pennsylvania field.
The jetliner, which government officials suspect was headed for a high-profile target in Washington, was the fourth to crash in a coordinated terrorist attack that killed thousands, and the only one that didn't take lives on the ground.
"He was gentle by nature, he was also very competitive, and he wouldn't stand for anyone being hurt," said Beamer's wife, Lisa, who was told of his last words by an operator who spoke to him. "Knowing that he helped save lives by bringing that plane down ... it brings joy to a situation where there isn't much to be found."
Todd Beamer placed a call on one of the Boeing 757's on-board telephones and spoke for 13 minutes with GTE operator Lisa D. Robinson, Beamer's wife said. He provided detailed information about the hijacking and - after the operator told him about the morning's World Trade Center and Pentagon (news - web sites) attacks - said he and others on the plane were planning to act against the terrorists aboard.
"They may have realized that (the hijackers) were planing to do the same thing with their plane," Beamer said Sunday in a telephone interview from her Hightstown, N.J., home. "So they chose to do what they could to prevent other people from being hurt."
Before the call ended and with yelling heard in the background, Todd Beamer asked the operator to pray with him. Together, they recited the 23rd Psalm. Then he asked Robinson to promise she would call his wife of seven years - who is expecting a third child - and their two sons, ages 1 and 3.
After receiving clearance from investigators, Robinson kept her promise Friday.
"People asked me if I'm upset that I didn't speak with him, but I'm glad he called (Robinson) instead," Lisa Beamer said. "I would have been helpless. And I know what his last words would have been to me, anyway."
Beamer said her husband placed the call at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday and told Robinson that there were three knife-wielding hijackers on board, one who appeared to have a bomb tied to his chest with a belt. The other two hijackers took over the cockpit after forcing the pilot and co-pilot out.
The jet was bobbing and changed course several times; the passengers knew they would never land in San Francisco.
``They realized they were going to die. Todd said he and some other passengers were going to jump on the guy with the bomb,'' Lisa Beamer said.
Several other passengers made phone calls from the jet before it crashed southeast of Pittsburgh: Jeremy Glick, 31; Mark Bingham, 31; and Thomas Burnett Jr. 38. Glick and Burnett said they were going to do something.
Todd Beamer dropped the phone after talking to Robinson, leaving the line open. It was then that the operator heard Beamer's words: "Let's roll."
Then silence.
Shortly afterwards, the plane crashed, killing all 45 aboard.
"Some people live their whole lives, long lives, without having left anything behind," Lisa Beamer said. "My sons will be told their whole lives that their father was a hero, that he saved lives. It's a great legacy for a father to leave his children." more

God explicitly directed Satan to take action against Job. He did not give Satan "permission". Satan's acts were evil because his intent was evil. Satan and all other evil beings are incapable of good intentions. God's commands to Satan were good because God's intentions define what is good. "Good" is not a metric with which we can measure God.

Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

Not to say that God has committed evil and yet one should not become a deist in the face of calamity. God's finger was on every particle in the brains of the hijackers, the airframe of Flight 93 and Todd Beamer's lips since the beginning of creation. God wanted that plane to crash as much as he wanted it to take off. Iniquity is a mystery, no one can explain it away as a "choice". Everything happens only once. Contingencies are useful to describe our uncertainty about what will happen but are meaningless in reference to what is past.

This is inaccurate. The article posted above says the plane lifted off at 8:42 a.m. It crashed no later than 10:06 a.m. That is not two and a half hours, or anywhere near it. This should be a clue to the validity of the rest of the piece.

When she spoke, people -- whether they believe in God or not -- stopped to listen, and were affected by what they heard. 'Let's Roll' Lisa. Keep on going, just as your husband did."

McLynnan, you are so right when you write that Lisa Beamer's strong faith gives her the same serenity that we see in our President and First Lady! The media, and many people without a faith in the Lord, spin this outward result into things which call our President an airhead, that he's clueless, etc... When the Lord sustains you, you don't need to appear on tv every hour to "explain things" to the public (as some in the previous administration were noted for...) And you said it, plain and simply, "Publicly the lady has been a rock. Todd chose well." Indeed he did. Indeed he did.

And my sincere prayer is that somehow, in those moments when Lisa feels the human pain of missing her husband's physical presence and support for herself and her children, I hope she is strengthened by the knowledge that she and Todd have paved such a wonderful path for the world, right to Him. Such a tiny little lady, and such an ordinary man, have affected our world.

It is written for children. I have not read it yet myself, but for less than $10, I didn't want to wait for a friend to review it first.
