Just curious here.

How many people here are against contraceptives as well as abortion? My friend said that most pro-lifers were against birth control, too. I told her that she was wrong but thought I would ask so I can show her this thread.

"The Pill" ends pregnancy by preventing implantation of the fertilized egg. Sounds like an abortion to me.

I wouldn't say 'all'. Some pro-lifers think that most birth control pills not only prevent ovulation, but when ovulation does occur, they also prevent implantation of the embryo. Embryo==human. So for some, birth control pills are abortifacients. This is why they're recommended as 'double ups' for 'the morning after pill' scenarios.

If you talk to orthodox Catholics, like myself, we'll tell you yes. With Protestants it varies; most, I believe, have no problem with non-abortifacient birth control within the context of marriage.

I am very pro conception-prevention by any means that comes to my mind--including a woman keeping her legs crossed. I cannot think of any exceptions. I am unalterably opposed to abortion in almost any conceivable situation. Pass that to your friend.

The embrace by the West of the culture of death has brought Western Civilization to the brink of self-extinction. Yes, I oppose this.

I have no problem with any form of birth control that occurs prior to conception.

Barrier methods (condoms, diaphrams, etc.) are between you, your spouse and God. The pill kills and so does the IUD and both are therefore just non-surgical abortifacients and no more morally acceptable than abortion itself.
