just as there is a disconnection between those two. People who need help should be help, not condemned to their sickness.
Do you mean sickness as living in misery? Or do you mean sickness as living at peace with yourself?
Since there are "transgendered" people who are helped by therapy, I would suggest that this is the better approach.
By all means speak up and list alternatives, but keep in mind of what I already listed in post 26 that does NOT work.
Of course, what passes for a therapist these days may make the entire issue problematic. Therapists need to be grounded in reality, a concept which seems to escape the APA these days.
Just keep in mind that you cannot be grounded in reality if you base your opinions on ignorance.
A few points. 1) there is not likely to be an impartial party reading posts on FR. It is also not likely that there truly is an impartial party when it comes to vices and perversions.
2) JMJ has not flamed you. I know her (not him) pretty well by now and I can frame what she has written to you by my knowledge of her. In a written environment like this one, you need to give people more of the benefit of the doubt.
3) I would like to see your exhaustive research of absolutely everyone who suffers from gender identity confusion and the efforts they went through to be cured and document their failures. I would also like to see your proof that you have not missed anyone. I will be surprised if you actually offer such, because I know people who have been cured by therapy.
Human beings are a combination of physical and spiritual beings. The spiritual does not have a sex, the physical has a sex that is determined by his or her sexual organs. If he is born with a penis, he is a boy. If she is born with ovaries and a uterus, she is a girl. There are a small number of cases where the sexual organs do not develop. In those cases there is a true physical gender identity problem which does not relate to this discussion. All other gender identity problems are a mental illness which is treatable, but you have to know something about treatment. The suggestion of lobotomy and shock therapy show people who did not know anything about treating mental illness. Most of today's psychologists know nothing about the spiritual side of man and so are either ineffective, or actually harmful.
Regarding ignorance - I try to avoid it.
