Seems a brutal thing to do to oneself for the sake of sexual normality, and odds are it only makes things worse.

The is one flaw to your logic. Beastiality and pedophilia are about sexual preference towards others. Transgender does NOT in any way deal with sexual preference towards other.
Transgender deals with a person's personality/deep-intergraded-instinct conflicting their physical gender.
I read about this stuff about two years because I found it interesting. And there is something you might want to know.
It has been medically proven (by trial and error over the past 50 to 60 years) that shock therapy, medication, counseling (both religious and psychiatric), nor a lobotomy can remove this personality/deep-intergraded-instinct conflict.
Ultimately it comes down to quality of life and happiness.
Now tell me, are you so shallow that you want to force someone (who is transgendered) to live their entire life in misery (when there is something that can be done about it), while you live your entire life, at peace with yourself?

OK, maybe that sounds flip. I don't mean to suggest that they are just playing games. But the solution to people in need of help is not to pronounce them normal and then let them mutilate themselves. Just as with those miners trapped in PA, when people need help you keep trying to help them until either you succeed or they die.

If you cared anything at all about these people, or had a shred of moral decency, you'd try and figure out a way to help them apart from permanatly altering their genitals. There is medical help available to deal with the brain disorder that causes this. Why not try that before you suggest them whacking off their penis and adding breasts?
