DALLAS (AP) -- Texas Rangers pitcher John Rocker issued a written apology Monday for anti-gay remarks he made toward patrons of a popular eatery.

Rocker said he was with his girlfriend on Sunday at Breadwinners Cafe & Bakery when some customers began badgering and pestering him.

Rocker's problem isn't what he says or doesn't say, it is that he just can't apologize for squat. Noboby believe him, no matter how sincere he may be.

He really needs to hire Hugh Grant to be his official apologizer. Every time John Rocker says something unfortunate Hugh Grant could go on the Tonight Show and say something about "being awfully sorry about the whole mess, it's just dreadful, isn't it?" before batting his baby blues at the audience. Sure, hiring Hugh to be your official apologist wouldn't be cheap, but he would be well worth the price.

Since when does anyone have to say 'We dont condone namecalling'? And since when does someone have to apologize for 'name-calling'?

Here's what he should have said: "I'm sorry those sodomites were messing with me. I'm sorry I couldn't enjoy my lunch without having those pedophiles in training bother me. I'm sorry America is so scared of the homo lobby that most other people won't say what needs to be said. I'm sorry that . . ."

"He's human but he should know better," Breadwinners manager Feletia Lee told Dallas-Fort Worth television station KDFW. "There are a lot of people here who aren't going to go to any Rangers games again.

Yeah, and I'm sure that there are a lot of people in the Dallas-Fort Worth area who aren't going to be going to Breadwinners Cafe & Bakery anymore, now that they know that Feletia "PC" Lee is the manager there. This whole incident sounds suspiciously like a setup in order to create publicity for the restaurant.

They badgered him during his meal, then follwed him into the parking lot to make obscene gestures at him, and Rocker in the one who has to apologize ... makes perfect sense in AmeriKa2002.

But ironically the CNN-SI headline is "Big mouth strikes again"

So, what's the lesson to be learned here...name calling is wrong unless done by an editor?

John Rocker is a moron. The reason I said this is that he trusted the media in the first place.

But now he learned his lesson.

Never trust the media!

You are absolutely right. Why is it that a majority seems so afraid of a minority?

If John were a black guy cursing the evils of 'white America', every news agency in the country would be singing his praises and booking him for high-dollar engagements.

...saved 24 games in 2000 and 23 last season...

How old is Rocker, and how bad is his injury? I'm thinking the Diamondbacks might need a closer after Hyome Ryun Kim finally sustains a neck injury following the path of the ball over his head and into the wild blue yonder.

I've noticed that it is illegal to mention John Rocker without talking about how terrible he is, and that it is also illegal to mention that Ray Lewis plea-bargained after leaving the scene of a double-homocide.
