Parish Bulletin ^ | 8-4-2002 | Fr. Doc Ortman

Posted on 08/05/2002 5:22:58 PM PDT by Notwithstanding

In shameful election eve stunner, priest defends radical pro-abort gubernatorial candidate Jennifer Granholm in parish bulletin given to all parishioners this weekend.

"[Abortion protestors] would have the state legislate the freedom that only God can give or take."

"Christians are prochoice in the purest understanding of the term"

Do you hold the view that abortion is a right?

How do you feel about being forced to carry to term a child that was forced on you via rape or incest?

So, you believe that children should be punished for their fathers' crime of rape or incest with the death penalty. Tell me, are there any other parental crimes for which you believe children deserve to be executed?

Hi Folks,

We need to keep on top of this. Let's not let the pressure off. Lets all FReep the heck out of this priest, his bishop, and his cardinal, and more importantly pray this so-called "Catholic" politician fails in her bid.

Remember, at one time Catholics dropped the ball on an important election of a "Catholic" pro-abort named Tom Ridge. Now "Catholic" pro-abort Ridge is still one of the first names mentioned as a replacement should the health of VP Cheney fail.

Don't forget, Catholic Activism IS Worth It!!!

So, Ortman was pro-life last November, and now equivocates?

This priest is full of himself, not the Good Lord. He should be taken to task by his parishioners.

I see that Jennifer won - and is expected to win in the general election as well. Emily's List types will be awash with joy. And what of those who claim to value human life? What will they bring to the public square? Perhaps a prayer at the inauguration, delivered by none other than Papa Doc! This is more than a shame. It's a mortal sin. (Not that they could understand it, but this is one of those SOCIAL SINS the liberals constantly babble about.)

Uh, "equivocates"??? Well, he's a Man for All Seasons, isn't he? At least, what passes for one in the contemporary Church.

I noticed those typos I thought it was an accident by the poster (I read it on a Catholic blog earlier this afternoon)...can't this priest bother to proof his own garbage?

When you answer a question with a question, you are saying to the world, "My position is indefensible." You are a fraud.

Those of us who espouse the notion that there are human rights also hold that human rights pertain to the human person, regardless of his location or circumstance. Rights are only justly curtailed when one freely chooses to misuse their own freedom.

Thus a law-abiding Muslim imam in Tokyo has, in the purest sense, the same human rights as a law-abiding lesbian woman in Vancouver. (NB: it is "All" men who are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, not just SOME men)

Sadly, you have apparently chosen to limit rights to only certain categories of persons, and those whose only "crime" is having been conceived lose any claim they had to human rights by virtue of their unfortunate location (in the womb).

Such a position is pure utilitarianism and a recipe for tyranny. (if you are confused, ask an elderly German about this)

You my friend are the reason Republicans lose elections. You are a single issue nut. I bet you could care less what happens to that kid once its born?

I dont recognize that tissue growth as a human until somewhere near the second trimester, certainly not at conception. You may think differntly but thats your cross to bear, not mine.

You are certainly following well-known (if not infamous) precedent:

Hitler did not recognize Jews as humans, and
the US did not recognize slaves as humans.

Funny, how they were human the whole time regadless of weather others recognized them as such.

There are so many causes to take up - why you have chosen the defense of butchery is baffling.

The theology of this churchman baffles me. He claims "Christains are pro choice in the purest understanding of the term. We are free to chose between the Lord and the evil one." However, if one choses to follow the "evil one", one is no longer a Christian. If one choses abortion, in Catholic dogma one has chosen to partake in an evil and un-Christian act. You can't have it both ways, either church dogma exists, or it does not. Ipso facto, the churchman in question has chosen to side with the "evil one".

Is this a Catholic church, or a Protestant Church ?

Rather a smug comment - It should suffice to say the proabort crowd has infected both.

Simple question, before trying to determine what end the Vatican,in using its power of excommunication would be able to effect (though the prospect is not likely..)

Thanks for posting this, Notwithstanding.

Here's my letter to Father Ortman, cc'ed to his pastor and the Bishop:

Dear Father Ortman: Your letter concerning Jennifer Granholm, posted on a website called FreeRepublic.com, is disgraceful coming from a Catholic priest. You give subtle and misleading cover for those who support the continued legality of abortion, which is nothing less than the murder of innocent life. If you find your personal views on abortion and Ms. Granholm are inconsistent with the teachings of the magisterium, you should take the only intellectually consistent step possible: Resign from the priesthood and stop leading good Catholics astray. May God grant you the wisdom to see the error of your ways, and may you beg His forgiveness. Sincerely, [NAME]

I urge other serious Catholics to take five minutes out of their day and write. Only by raising our voices will the rot that has infected our Church in America be exposed to the light and defeated.

A power "unused" is essentially worthless - with all due respect and in an honest tenor, try policing your own before slamming your brother who cares just as deeply about these issues as you do.

I slammed no one, I was asking a question, I did not have the answer to, if you were a little more observant, and ALOT less thin skinned, you would have noted my next post answering my own question.

Something about tending to thine own eye?
