Your posting doesn't really exist because I've been assured that no criticism of President Bush is allowed on FR anymore. So I must be hallucinating.

What's happened to this thread is the same thing that is happening to this country. Campaign finance, big government, lobby money, immigration policies, political corruption, education, ethics are no longer issues. The only important matters, so it seems are the two political parties. I guess the mantra here is either you are with us or against us.

If I hire someone to head a department and I don't like what he is doing I'm going to tell him so instead of making excuses for him. They say it's not politically correct to ctiticize. I didn't realize how indoctrinated this country already was to political correctness as evidenced on this thread. I feel safer when people speak out. When people stop speaking, well, you can judge for yourself. It's like when the woods suddenly becomes quiet.

You've done a great deal of reserch here, Uncle Bill, and made an impressive post with all these links. I appreciate that as well as your sentiments concerning big government.

I wonder if the CATO institute has someone in mind to run against President Bush in the Republican Primary...someone who could actually win an election nationwide? I fear that the division among conservative ranks may allow us to be conquered by the democrats in '04. A house divided against itself cannot stand.

G.W. works for what all men (and women) in power work for: More power. Money is power. Influence is power. Connections are power. Liberal, Conservative, Libertarian et. al. are all silly labels. Ideology is used to keep people divided. The reason why people in power do not follow the Constitution is because it forbids them precisly what they want the most. Power.

I'm not saying this is bad, as our system of government is far better than most. And people in power tend to want to stay there, no matter what system (or ism) is in place. At least ordinary individuals have a means for removing the powerful and to some degree the rule of law works.

Don't think that any of our leaders (well, maybe a tiny few)actually make decisions based on some sort of a belief system. They do it to maintain or increase, if possible their power base. Bush is doing the same. He realizes that most of us, would vote for him over some Democrat. He counts on the solid right base for reelection. He pulls these lefty moves to gain the votes of the mushy middle; that vast uninformed mass of the American Electorate. He needs that mushy middle to win.

It makes little sense to discourage one's core supporters prior to a mid-term election. Yet that is the result when a Republican president expands government, which Bush is doing.

Clintoon pandered to his core with gays in the military and Hillary-care among other issues. He was destroyed in 1994. You have to pander to independents in midterms. Clintoon did and was rewarded in 1998.

From the article: "In less than two years, President Bush has presided over more government expansion than took place during eight years of Bill Clinton."

Excellent post Unc. The Cato Institute nails it again. BTTT.

There is not a conservative in Washington that I am aware of. The closest thing to a conservative was just expelled.

As for Bush being a conservative, the suggestion is laughable.

On a scale of 1 to 10 I give Bush a 2.

The first thing on his agenda was meeeting with Gay leaders , therefore giving what NO President had given before, Presidential recognition of the Gay lifestyle as just another Lifestyle Choice. BS on that. It isn't true and no President should have ever done it.

Thanks Bill. What you have posted is what I have been saying to others for months on this site , with the result of me being accused by ' NOPARDONS ' of trying to start a ' flame war ' , which is pretty LOL -ingly funny.

Trust this : you have the same belief and observations as Rush Limbaugh , because you have posted the truth .

It is my belief that as the result of the facts posted here about our Republican President's legislating as a liberal , he has made it uneccesarily much more difficult to retain the Senate and House majority . In fact , I believe we more likely than not will lose them than retain them.

Bless you , voa-davidk 8/5/02
