How can one be "Free" if you are unable to renounce that "Freedom"?

Not sure exactly what you mean. These people were free to renounce their US citizenship, and they did.

I really wouldn't want them back.

They sound like really good people to me, people who vote to leave oppression by voting with their feet. It is another good way to limit the power of government. A government that can take everything you own owns you.

Amen. Good riddance to bad rubbish. I wish we could bundle up 90% of our wealthy parasites and deport them to the Bahamas and forbid them from owning any US assets or earn anymoney in this country period. Let them live down there and try to hold on to their loot when the revolution comes. parsy.

I hate to say this but what does being a US citizen get me that being an illegal alien wouldn't? Actually, I'd be better off as a resident alien or illegal than I am as a US citizen. I pay much higher taxes and get fewer perks as a citizen than as an illegal and I could still work, get student loans or grants, get the Oregon health plan, and even VOTE as an illegal. So really what's the point?

These newer emigrants join others of longer standing, including Robert Miller, the co-owner of Duty Free Shoppers International Ltd. Miller has a British passport obtained in Hong Kong, though he was raised in Quincy, Mass.

Why post a 1994 article? (Miller and his partner sold DFS years ago.) Has the situation changed in the past 8 years?
