"Before adjourning for its annual August recess, the City Council also gave final zoning approval to Trump Tower Chicago." Chicago Sun-Times Aug.1, 2002 Last paragraph at this link.
GREAT artists renderings HERE!
Hi All,
Yep, it'll be called Trump Tower Chicago. It'll be the 4th tallest in the city, at 1,125 feet it's only 2 feet shorter than number 3--the John Hancock! Constuction begins next year 2003 and finishes in 2006.
From all I've been reading about the new WTC in NYC, it seems as if NYC is wimping out. It's looking more and more like they're NOT gonna replace the towers with something big. What a bunch of cowering sissies!
But we still build 'em BIG here in Chicago! The irony is it's being built by a New Yorker!
See Ya!

This has been in the works for a while, it's great to see though. I think Chicago has some 70 buildings being currently constructed, or planning to be constructed. It is a booming city with most office space rented up, even with the economic downturns of the last 2 years.

This has been in the works for a whileYes it has, and it looks like they've finally got all their ducks in a row. This is too cool! Eat your heart out NYC!

I really like the design. It looks like a play on the Sears tower theme. BTW I live just down the street.
As someone who grew up outside of Chicago, I have to say "way to go"!
This is something I would never see in Seattle (where I currently live). The Democrats on the Seattle City Council (as opposed to the Democrats on the Chicago City Council) would cite all kinds of environmental concerns, etc. to stop such a building from going up. Hmmmm...maybe Boeing, now in Chicago, will rent some space in this tower? (LOL)
Anyhow, as I've said before: I'd rather have a Midwest Democrat than a Left Coast Democrat...IMO, there's too many twigs and nuts in the granola out here.

I hopped on a boat right there just a few weeks ago. Amazing how it fits right in with the Wrigley Building. That is one of the cool things about Chicago. Old, new and constantly the same while always changing.

Just for the record, I seriously doubt that the holy Islamic civilization, which could not create one of these in the last thousand years, will create one in the next thousand years.

That's beautiful.

Cool. Now here's the question. Why couldn't the architect come up with another 2 feet 1 inch to take number 3?

Having been born in Chicago, and growing up there during the 50s, its always been great to see the new skyscrapers going up....
I remember when the man who lived next door to me, was working construction on the Prudential Building, and how we thought those 40 stories were just so high up....
I moved away from Chicago about 23 yrs ago, was back there in 1981, and that was the last time...but at that time, we took the kids up to the tops of Sears Tower and it was wonderful....
I also agree, that new buildings going up, just seem to meld perfectly into the existing skyline...
The sight of the Wrigley bldg, whenever I see it on the news and in a movie, always makes me homesick for Chicago...

That's beautifulYep, it sure is. I really, really, really hope that New York sees this and gets inspired to do something really befitting with the WTC site.

Why couldn't the architect come up with another 2 feet 1 inch to take number 3?Ha-ha! That IS a good question. Maybe they will by the time it's finished.

Looks like the business end of an electric razor. I'm not that impressed, but then, I don't live in Chicago.

Looks like the business end of an electric razor. I'm not that impressedI disagree, I think it's awesome. But more than that, since the WTC attack and the speculation that they're not gonna replace them with something outstanding, well it truely lifts my spirits to think that someone here has the GUTS to do this.
RIGHT ON MR. TRUMP!!!

I was wondering if they did that to stop #3 from bitching and holding up their application. Otherwise, that is a ridiculous height to stop at. :- )
To: Freeper 007
I wouldn't be surprised if that's the answer.

Isn't that on the site of the Sun-Times (was the Daily News) Building? I haven't been back to the Loop in fifteen years, but, it's the North side of the River, and between Wabash and the Michigan bridge. The next bridge was on State Street. The Tribune Tower is on the West side of Michigan, and Billy Goat's was down on the lower level of Wacker, on the first floor.
