Safety Bullet man has not bothered to address my biggest problem: A SAFETY DEVICE which is HIDDEN FROM VIEW is an invitation to disaster.

/1/ At 0330 when you are awakened by smasing glass and you grab the pistol you (or your spouse) loaded months ago, under stress you will pull the trigger and fatally jam your gun. An added safety locking device, if used, must be readily visible on the exterior, telling the owner at a glance, "HEY! TAKE ME OFF OR I WON'T SHOOT!!! This device is hidden, and will under stress be forgotten and jam the gun when most needed.

/2/ This device "makes it safe for kids to handle the gun". BULL CRAP! This violates EVERY basic firearm safe handling law. GREAT! Let's leave our pistols out, after all, they have "safety bullets" in the chambers! Don't fret if the neighbors find them and play with them, Safety Bullet will take care of the danger.

WHOOPS! Somebody took Safety Bullet out and forgot to tell the kids, and since the device is HIDDEN FROM VIEW when used, NO ONE CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE! BANG!!!! "Oh Gee, SORRY, I thought there was a safety bullet in that damn thing. I guess I took it out last week when I cleaned it. SORRY! My Bad!

//////////////////////////////////

There is NO substitute for proper training, which teaches one and all that ALL GUNS MUST BE TREATED AS IF THEY ARE LOADED AND COCKED AT ALL TIMES. "Safety Bullet" violates this First Commandment, and would actually INCREASE gun accidents by causing folks to "think" the gun was safe with its HIDDEN FROM VIEW safety-bullet, which may or MAY NOT be present, since it is INVISIBLE. If it leads to a PERCEPTION of safety and more "horseplay" with guns, there will be more accidents.

Also, this teaches children that it's OK to play with firearms. That's fine when it's your gun with the safety bullet inside, but what about the neighbor's gun? Do you really want your child to believe that all guns are safe to mess with?

As you say Travis, there is no substitute for proper training.

Excellent point.

Mental habit conducive to safety: This is a deadly weapon, and must be handled with utmost attention and respect.

Mental habit conducive to injury and death: This is a safe gun.

Does this mean that you don't like my idea of eliminating the first round in a magazine in order to eliminate first round AD's?

I totally agree with you. I have never said that this would make a gun safe for kids to play with that is this authors comments on an article he read about this. Kids, unless they have received firearm traning and are supervised should never have a gun loaded or unloaded. I agree with you.

If this was in your gun and anyone other than you found it and pulled the trigger the gun would be locked up. If you are worried about your safety than take the SB out and keep it on or near your person.

Come on now you stated you would fire the gun thinking that there was a safety bullet it it and mistakenly fire a real round.

So your saying that if there was a safety device you would now start horsing around with a gun instead of acting like the responsible gun owner I know you are. DO you do this with your current safety device?

If its 3:00 am and somebody is smashing glass and breaking into your house would you rather have your gun in a safe or have a gun lock on it or have a SB in it. Its faster than anything else on the market.

I just rechecked all the press releases and nothing states that now kids can play with your gun. That is exactly the opposite of what should be done.

I am on your side.

I think of this dumb device this way: It is a device that can be forgotten which is designed to prevent an accident when you forgot something else. Sounds like a stupid idea to me, and one that a typical liberal would think of. they usually fail to address the real issues, and, instead, find dumb solutions to problems that don't exist or will not work. They don't usually solve anything, but they sure do create a bunch of busy work.
