Vice President Dick Cheney, once viewed as one of President Bush's greatest assets, has dramatically reduced his profile in recent weeks as questions swirl about his corporate dealings, and now faces questions in some quarters about whether he is becoming a political liability for Bush.
"This kind of mystery that now surrounds his whereabouts and his doings--I don't understand that at all," Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said. "It's past the point where I think it has anything to do with national security. It's something else."

Gore, never having been an asset, still a dim star, or better yet, still a dimWIT! (Take THAT media SCUM!)
Claim: Cheney, once an asset, sees star dim
From the article: Republican and Democratic polls show the public remains confident in Cheney. So where is the polling evidence that Cheney is becoming a political liability?
Claim: "They apparently are not letting the vice president come out of the secured, undisclosed location--this time for a different reason," Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.) said.
From the article: But at almost every stop, whether in Evansville, Ind., or West Conshohocken, Pa., Cheney delivers short campaign-style speeches that attract little attention. He touts successes in the war on terrorism, takes partisan shots at Democrats and, without exception, refuses to take questions. In Iowa on Monday, he talked about corporate wrongdoing but made no mention of his own problems. So he is not visible, yet out in public?
Claim: now faces questions in some quarters about whether he is becoming a political liability for Bush.
From the article: And he remains a reliable draw at fundraisers for Republican candidates, particularly in the less visible House races. He has appeared on behalf of candidates in 30 states, raising $12 million. Yeah, he is such a political albatross that he has raised $12 million bucks for GOP candidates.
Claim: On the political sideline
From the article: As the scrutiny intensifies in Washington, Cheney is likely to spend more time on the fundraising circuit. He is scheduled to make at least two campaign trips per week through the fall elections.
That is the SIDELINE?
The libs are going absolute beserk trying to make a story where none exists.
Cheney is Bush's point man for the coming war against Iraq, which will be the most dangerous and possibly the most bloody conflict in human history. If he has dropped off the radar screen even further in the last few weeks, you can infer that something big is in the works. This may not be unconnected with the the fact that Tony Blair and Vladimir Putin have also assumed an unusually low profile in the last few weeks (as pointed out by freeper Miss Marple yesterday).
For example, Paul O'Neill, who many were castigating as being on the way out a few months ago (because he was not making any public appearances), was actually busy organizing the surprise raids on the Islamic charities with a strike force he assembled from Treasury, Justice, and local people. He had pulled people from the Secret Service, Customs, FBI, and other agencies and made separate (and leak proof) task forces. No one in the press has paid attention to this either, but I thought it was important that people realize what he did and more importantly, why (leaks=spies=Clintonistas). I also think this is one of the reasons for Homeland Security...only trustworthy people will be moved into the new agency. Interestingly, John Ashcroft has been absent from the news lately, as well.
Regarding the war, I pay close attention to what is in the news and what is not. I also noticed that yesterday there were two pro-Bush and pro-war articles from the Guardian and the Times in Britain...both mouthpieces for the Labor party and not prone to back us or President Bush. I can only conclude that Blair has laid down the law.
The next month should be very interesting.
Dick Durbin is owned by the Chicago machine and corrupt organized labor bosses. Illinois is left holding the bag insofar as Durbin is concerned - and its an empty bag.
The above statement by Durbin regarding VP Cheney come from a person that is owned by the Chicago Democrat machine and the corrupt international labor unions. The citizens of Illinois have been left holding the bag.
Yeah, you're right! This one might last seven or eight weeks!! [yawn]
Have you checked the New York skyline lately? Saddam Hussein will not go quietly into the good night. He's had a long time to plan for this one. When Cheney predicted this would be the first war with higher civilian than military casualties, he wasn't kidding around.
