Biometrics would make fake IDs far more difficult, if not impossible.

(These are fighting words for the libetarians. Watch them post and blast within 2 minutes. Their definition of freedom is more important to them then life itself, even our life. Especially our children's lives.)

Ain't no libertarian, but I am not going for the digital angel stuff Because! of my children. BTW, let the FBI get their act together for God's sakes. I think Mayberry RFD was more effective. What ever happened to the guy they were staking out in North Carolina. Good Grief! Louis Freeh was a turd. V's wife.

Death comes to us all. I prefer it to living a miserable life of slavery( Middle School was close enough to slavery for me to say yes I would rather die then ever go back to anything like that ever again).

So quick to sell out your liberty for the illusion of safety, now what wise man said that?

People were real safe in the Soviet Union. You sound like you would have loved living there, all cozy and safe.

Really? How? Genuine biometric data taken from the owner of the fake ID can be put on the fake ID. Now he/she is "beyond question" because the ID card data matches the the biometrics.

Unless, of course, you are advocating a central databank that tracks every use of an ID card. And you believe no-one would be able to crack into a system that needs to be instantly accessible from anywhere 24/7/365. And you believe no-one working on the database could ever be compromised.

Does the name Kathrine Smith ring any bells???

I'm no libertarian, but in the immortal words of Patrick Henry: "Give Me Liberty or Give me Death."

I'm starting a list of libertarian haters. I take it I should add your name to the list?

By the way, you were the first person to mention the word "libertarian" on this thread. I wish I had a prize for you.

I'm more afraid of liberal-socialists with the technology than I am of terrorists getting in for the lack of it.

Any biometric should be something only used to confirm identity (like retina scan, not fingerprints). Any workable system would require a database computer to check against the person posting the "ID" (although the card/passport becomes irrelevant at that point) (e.g. Scan the eyeball "live" and compare it to the file).

Perhaps some corrupt officials would try to insert false identities in the computer but the system could perform "offline" comparisons of the data for any duplicate entries (multiple IDs).

And if you are not in the system, deny boarding privillages or entry into our country.
