A plan for salvaging burned trees calls for helicopter logging. By Stuart Leavenworth -- Bee Staff Writer Published 2:15 a.m. PDT Wednesday, July 31, 2002 DUNCAN CANYON -- Deep inside this mountain canyon, a visitor is enveloped by three solitary sounds: The wind blowing through 300-year-old pines and cedars, water gurgling down a fern-lined creek, and the songs of dozens of birds.

I have had it with these nutcases.
First they delay logging and any Forest Management by countless lawsuits, then, when the fire eventually comes and destroys the forest, they go to court AGAIN to stop any use of the nearly destroyed environment they created.
I am just so tired of dealing with these morons, they have no plan themselves, they only want to stop the plans of others including the professional Foresters we hire to do this very job.

Comments? Suggestions? How about something completely different?
Private Property and free markets are the only solution.
There is a way to get it done.

If 10% of these trees ever make it to a saw mill I will swoon.
The one thing congress can do is pass emergency legistration to stop these law suits NOW !
The timber in the "Megan" fire of eastern Humboldt County of a few years ago is rotting away as the Forest Service was bogged down in court case after court case by the anarchist in our midst.

You beat me to it. I was just going to post this article. I recommend Carry's book. Good read.

I guess the most frustrating part about this to me is that these enviros never have a plan themselves, other than to close it off to ANY human activity, they see NO middle ground.
They are reduced to only stopping the efforts of the professionals we hire to do this job, they never seem to have any ideas themselves.
The one size fits all approach they have is to prevent human activity. Unless of course it is backpacking or rafting. Both of which are only available to able bodied people who have the time to devote to them, which many people are not.

...timber industry sees salvage logging as a key source of wood at a time when harvests have declined in national forests. What, no mention of why they're down? Thanks for the ping MAdFLy!

Suggestions?Brian Vincent, an activist with the American Land Alliance, promised "there will be tree sitters" if the Forest Service tries to log the canyon.
As I have asked elsewhere - anybody know any Amazonian natives with a blow-gun and a supply of curare? ;-)

you need only send me your email addy via FReepmail, and I will add it to the group.
You can be removed later by request, naturally- I usually send a couple a day. Consult the time stamps on my updates at DUBOB 9 to gain an idea of how frequently they are transmitted.

Bumping...

Do you know what they call a "treesitter" who falls to their death from a 120 feet up? A good start!!!!BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
To: madfly
Thanks for the ping Madfly.... see my # 16.
To: Issaquahking; knews_hound
And..........the Forest Service often decides to not 'confront' the tree-sitter because that would just be giving exactly what they want which is publicity.
Our best hope (and it is dim) is if the GOP can push thru the same type of legislation for 'forests at risk' that Daschle got for the forests in South Dakota.

The enviro nazis would rather let it burn than have it be logged by humans.
To: goldstategop
The weird thing is Tommy Daschund secured an exemption from this enviro wacko "let's get rid of the trees rather than have humans harvest them" nonsense for South Dakota. And the Greenies are for once all strangely silent about the institution of common sense forest management policies in the Majority Leader's home state.
