Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill doesn't get much respect, sometimes not even from us. But this Sunday he showed why all of the anguished Beltway yearning for the return of Clinton-era financier Robert Rubin is so misguided.

Appearing on "Meet the Press," Mr. O'Neill was asked about Mr. Rubin's recent proposal to reassure investors by reducing their after-tax income. "He says that the 10-year, $1.5 trillion [Bush] tax cut is a much bigger threat to the economy than the corporate scandals," Tim Russert asked. "Do you agree?"

Rubin built a house of cards while Sec of Treasury. Chickens will come home to roost on his head.

Rush said today that Lieberman and Levin are calling for hearings on Harkin and Halliburton. They want Bush and Cheney to answer questions about their business dealings. But they won't call Rubin to testify about anything. This really stinks. Gary Winnick is protected too. Global Crossing was a $12 billion dollar bust but Gary is giving hundreds of million away to charity. His assets are untouched.

A whole smorgasbord of Clinton Administration meddling undermined the economy and led to the collapse which began towards the end of his term. You might enjoy the analysis and graphics posted here.

And their feet will reach the ground.

"Typical, only the Washington Times covers this story. The NYT and the other news rags are full of Lefty reporters who will protect Rubin because they think he is a genius of their prefered party."
