BTW, back on the morning of 9/11 I did buy about a dozen gallons of bottle water from the grocery store, just as a precaution. At $.59 a gallon, they came in plastic bottles, but more than a third have sprung a leak, although they were stored in an interior closet, where the temp never has ranged beyond 60-80 degrees. Is that normal(cheap materials) after a certain amount of time? Wondering if I should buy higher priced replacements if the containers will last longer. Sheesh, I thought water was water.

I've got a 55 gallon blue polypropylene water barrel in my crawl space, with an appropriate amount of bleach added for long-term storage. I have food, radios, and other items for CD readiness as well.

I recommend all consider their own readiness, and how it can be improved. This also prepares you for the aftermath of a severe weather event.

Generally, bottled water has a "drink by" date on it, usually about two years after the date it was bottled. So unless you bought bottles that were right on the edge of expiration (highly unlikely, as tons of consumers buy bottled water in mass quantities because they believe - usually incorrectly - that it's purer than water out of their own taps), they should not have sprung a leak. Check the expiration date on the bottles; it's probably not for over another year, in which case you have every right to take them back to the grocery store and demand a refund or exchange.
