Yep..hold your little dog close to you and click your heels three times repeating "there are no terrorists, there are no terrorists, there are no terrorists"...and maybe when you wake up you will see that a nation that doesnt or wont control its borders, profile terrorists, and passes out free citizenship like holloween candy has no choice but do do as is being done....
Imagine what road the Clinton and the Gore would have taken...

Just so I understand your position. You support "re-evaluating" the Posse Comitatus Act, and TIPs, etc. so the government can make you safer? And support giving the military power to conduct
investigations and surveillance, use troops to "maintain order and security" and arrest American citizens.Boonie Rat

Margolis hasn't been the same since 9/11, and has gone off into the fever swamps with some others on the Right. What a shame, he used to read as well as a Paul Johnson, and was an interesting voice in Canadin journalism and a good tonic against the bland left consensus up here.
No more.

Using US troops to arrest Canadian citizens sounds like a swell idea to me. Let's start with Peter Jennings.

Why should Congress want the military arresting people? If the military is not trained to be a police force, it should stick to that which it is prepared to do: logistics, surveillence and information gathering. &;-)

"Why should Congress want the military arresting people? All else is merely in support of that mission. The military themselves don't want anything to do with domestic policing.

Haven't you heard about the "Thou shalt no criticize Bush" rule? The mere mention of his signing of CFR will get you called a Bush basher.

The U.S. Government has a myriad of ways and employees to investigate, arrest, confiscate, intimidate, frighten and punish. Some might even say it has too many options and too much power.

"The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground." Thomas Jefferson
A coming revolution toward the imbalance of power won't come in my lifetime ... but I believe the pendulum will swing. &;-)
