Think about us not only today... Think of all cyclists the next time you speed up to cut one off as you turn into the parking lot for Starbucks or 7-11. Think of us the next time you pass real close on a tight left hander. Think of us the next time you see us approaching a light and try to resist the uncontrollable urge to pin me between the bumber of your RX300 and the curb. Think of us when we pull out into traffic to block you from killing us and try not to get too pissed off.

Cyclists are some of the toughest competitors in earth. What we get for it is brushed by your mirrors, honked at, made fun of, cut off, spit at, bottles thrown at, given the finger and run off the road by people reading the newspaper as they drive (happened to me).

Hooray for all cyclists who manage to stay alive on the road. I'll wait for ya'll at the top of the next hill.

Cheers!

(Yes, I wear my helmet every day ... even if I'm wearing skirts more often than pants. I've had too many close calls over the last decade not to know that they're trying to kill me. No way they could just be that incredibly stupid and thoughtless.)

Actually I thought the "Tour de France" was a video about bordello hopping in Gay Paree. I'll think of you the next time my 3/4 ton truck goes "thump-thump, thump-thump".

And remember, PeeWee, pride goeth before the fall.

roubaix signed up 2002-07-28.

Nice troll and welcome to FreeRepublic.

Appreciating Lance (and loathing the French)doesn't require you to be a cyclist!

Well, I just finished watching the hour puff piece on the Tour de France and want to thank CBS for the two minutes they devoted to todays final stage.

I was happy to hear President Bush called Lance right after the race and Lance said Bush invited him to come visit. Lance spoke about how President Bush has been a friend for a long time and pretty much praised Bush saying Bush is a sportsman and that is what we need right now! Why, Lance may actually be a conservative. GO LANCE GO!!!

Questoins for all...

How many of you own a real road bicycle?

Nope, but I own a real MTB.

How many of you actually ride it regularly?

Four to six days a week.

...with real shorts, real jersey and A HELMET? How many of you know what a century is and have done one?

I've ridden a 100km (metric century) XC (That's off road). I'd say that's easily equal to 100 miles on pavement with skinny tires.

To those who can answer yes, Lance is our hero.

Phooey on roadie elitism. He's my hero too.

Most of you thought that "Tour de France" was a travel company yesterday and today are cheering. Maybe I missed something here. What did roubaix say that was so offensive? I went back and read his post twice, and while it did have a touch of roadie elitism to it, it certainly didn't warrant being called a troll or an assinine comment about being run over by a truck.

They are forgotten and have shown themselves as Sore Losers...kinda like Sore/Loserman, ya know. But...Lance has the USA behind him and how nice to have an American bring smiles to the faces of other Americans by achieving such a feat and still show the world what belief in God and and belief in one's self can do. I am sure Lance's family all played a major role. I'm proud!!!

And to those mad about this thread, blame the networks for the tape delay. Free Republic does not work well on tape delay!!

Common courtesy dictates consideration for others. Not putting the results in the title shows consideration for fellow Freepers who wish to watch the summary without knowing the results. That does not prevent you or me from discussing the results to our hearts content.

It's small things like this that contribute to a more civilized discourse.

American drivers are far more bicycle friendly than the Greeks (where I currently reside). I look forward to returning to the U.S. in September. I don't know why you have such a rough time biking in the U.S. I've done a lot of biking in the U.S. over the last 30 years and have rarely come across the hostility you have faced. Perhaps it's because I wear generic clothing (sweat pants, T-shirt, etc.) when I bike. That dorky stretchy, colorful stuff just seems to irritate some people.

I've never owned "real" shorts or a "real" jersey, and I guess I never owned a "real" road bike either. That never stopped me from knocking out 50 miles on a Saturday just for fun. Can you say "cycling snob"? I knew you could.

Anyone know what is the record for most wins?

Four have won it five times but only one of those won five in a row. None have ever won six.......yet.

Dittos.

The only redeeming value to the hour was shots of the French countryside.

The coverage was not below my expectations however, so I wasn't disappointed. I expected to see no coverage and CBS lived up to expectations.

The coverage of today's stage was over before I even realized they were talking about today. I think there was even less footage of the final day than last year which I wasn't sure was possible.

That having been said, LANCE AND TEAM RULES!

Oh the coverage was AWFUL ! Worse than the nauseating & sappy Olympic coverage...I went into the kitchen for some coffee and totally missed the coverage of today's final stage...it was pretty certain that Lance would win (Yay) but I can't believe I waited for hours and then saw nothing ! Well..at least I didn't miss any NASCAR while I was waiting (BIG crash and then rain delay--booooring sports day all around...grrrr!)
