Are they going to make a movie out of this miracle event?

If they do, I will be waiting in line to buy the first copy! I live about 90 miles north of where this happened, and this was something that nobody really expected. WOW!!

Gov. Mark Schweiker then appeared before reporters late Saturday night and raised his fists over his head. I think that the wrong guy from PA is the Homeland Security Czar.

I live about 30 miles from there. The head of the mining company goes to our church. I thought for sure those miners were dead. This is one time I'm very happy to have been wrong!

This guy had better be ready for higher office as the public has a ground-swell of support for him, right now, that would look like a Tsunami.

I, too, noted the Governer's dynamic involvement as well as that of the Mines guy (federal?). I can't help but think that the guys who did the work, the mine owner who'll pay for all those rescuers, and the others responsible for this close to miraculous outcome are a little pissed at the grandstanding.
In a victory like this, there is always enough credit to go around. Hell, even Heraldo is probably taking credit for a part. He was unwatchable, of course, but multiple cable channels all broadcasting the same pool coverage does give the viewer choices not elsewhere available in media.
Schweiker did, indeed, come across well. I believe he runs in his own right in November and can see his TV ads with last night's tape.
We have a national/international feel good story. Let's see how the democrats can pee in this pool.

While we're thanking God and ooohing and aaaahing over publicity mad politicos who never saw a camera they didn't like, how about a word of thanks to the men who busted their asses to get these men out. I didn't see any angels moving rock or the governor ever break into a sweat. These people got out because of muscle and brains, nothing else.

Read that the Sipsville firehouse where the families stayed was desperately in need of some repairs. If that can be confirmed, it would be nice of some FReepers could get a collection going for those folks.

Don't forget that the governor stated last night that President Bush had phoned him at the beginning of the crisis and promised him that anything needed would be provided post haste. The guv said that it WAS!
In his modest way, GW will not take credit like the Creep would had he been president during this situation.

Hollywood would probably cast Alec Baldwin as the main hero. This is part of their "Alec doesn't suck as bad as he seems" image overhaul the motion picture industry has been giving the Blowviator. Make him a hero character in every movie. That will make people forget he's anti-American.

Are they going to make a movie out of this miracle event? As long as it doesn't star Alec Baldwin with his pompadour 'do, I might watch it.
There was a true story about a similar incident that occured years ago - the miners had been trapped, and the silence was so total that the ticking from their wristwatches was driving them mad. They threw them all in the water to escape the noise.
I have been spelunking (caving for you virgins) several times in Kentucky in one of the largest pristine caves in the country. Because almost all of the entrances are on private property, it is completely undeveloped. There are passages where you literally have to take off your helmet and fannypack, and turn your head sideways so you can worm through. I probably would have to lose about 40 pounds if I wanted to do it again.
I was thinking, if something ever collapsed, how the hell would I ever get out? I can't imagine the mental strain these miners were under. They should get combat pay and an immediate retirement package.

Watching these guys get pulled out of the mine, one by one over 2hours and 15 minutes was the best birthday present I received.
I had been real busy this week traveling and hadn't watched the news as closely as usual. On Friday someone asked me if I thought they were still alive. Not really knowing the situation, I replied of course, there's always a chance. I am so glad I was right.

The Washington Post conveniently leaves out the rest of the miners quote. He said 'Get us the hell out of here and get us some chew.'
To: Isara
"There's nine men ready to get the hell out of here. We need some chew."Man, I love that quote...
