F-16s Pursue Unknown Craft Over Region
Washington Post ^ | July 27, 2002 | Steve Vogel

Posted on 07/27/2002 8:10:12 AM PDT by steveo

"It was this object, this light-blue object, traveling at a phenomenal rate of speed," Rogers said. "This Air Force jet was right behind it, chasing it, but the object was just leaving him in the dust. I told my neighbor, 'I think those jets are chasing a UFO.' "My guess and it is a guess is that an advanced recon aircraft whose existence is still secret was in the airspace and there had been a communications foul up. I note that smoething Mlike Mach 5 would do the job nicely."

Aurora?

Excerpted form the story (I believe a small excerpt falls within the "Fair use" provision):
1) Radar detected a low, slow-flying aircraft about 1 a.m. yesterday, according to a military official.

2)Controllers were unable to establish radio communication with the unidentified aircraft, and NORAD was notified.

3)When the F-16s carrying air-to-air missiles were launched from Andrews, the unidentified aircraft's track faded from the radar, the military official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

And then we have this:
For Renny Rogers, it was strange enough that military jets were flying low over his home in Waldorf in the middle of the night.

It was what he thinks he saw when he headed outside to look early yesterday that floored him.

My take of that there is *no* connection between what the F-16s were scrambled for and what Renny Rogers saw:

1) FAA controllers observed a slow-moving blip on their consoles that drew attention.

2) Said blip was due to meteorological conditions that caused an FAA ARSR to observe a freight train rather than actual air traffic

3) Policy calls for jets to be scrambled as a "safety" measure since the freight-train blip could not be contacted on radio

4) Renny Rogers hears the jets, get up bleary-eyed and witnesses off in the distance what he thinks is the object of their pursuit: a passenger airliner reflecting moonlight.

5) Whole story makes news on a slow weekend ...

To assume, out of billions of star systems, that we are the only life forms to exist(as we know it or otherwise), is sheer stupidity.

The Aurora replaced the F117 at dreamland in the late 80's. It has been at Edwards since the mid 90's. Or so I haven't heard . . .

notice there aren't many UFO sightings until atomic testing became commonplace?
Note also that this coincides with

1)improved telephone system,

2) facsimile systems (newspapers can send "wire photos" back and forth)

3) better/smaller cameras including home-movie cameras (for capturing such "phenomenon")

4) radio and TV (BOTH of these are always in need of time-filling and titillating material) ...

Lots of stupidity, and clowns abound.

Not to many years ago (in astronomical terms) many of these same types thought the earth was flat and that the earth was the center of the entire universe.

One of the best Sci-Fi books I have ever read dealt with mind control experiments by nazi scientists, subject scientists escaping via submarine along with top nazi aerospace scientist at end of WWII to the Arctic and establishing a base.

Zoom forward to present time and people around the globe are reporting "alien" abductions and the sighting of UFO's, the discovery that those who were abducted were implanted with a tiny electronic device.

Footnoted with actual articles detailing actual events which occured over the years starting with one startling article regarding Admiral Byrd's expedition to the Arctic.

Unfortunately, I can remember the author's name nor the title of the book. Damn martini's are destroying the wrong brain cells.....

I think the author's name is something like Harbinson or Harbison.....

That's it! here is a web page regarding the book.

Evidently there was a sequel to it.
