Four years ago I was told I had lung cancer. Finally I got my Dr. to send me for a PET (nuclear imaging) Scan. It will tell you definately whether or not he does have cancer.
It will also absolutely pick up Alzhiemer's. It costs about $2500 but insurance will pay if you have it and it cuts to the chase. The sooner you know the more you can accomplish.

Add my prayers to those of others. While the FDG PET scan is this most accurate tool we now have in imaging lung cancer, it is still not absolute. It misses lung cancers about 5% of the time and is positive when no cancer is present about 20% of the time. A CT scan is more sensitive but less accurate and the two used together gives the best overall detection rate. Just wanted to clarify that point.
