A woman is threatening legal action after a man she met through an internet dating agency described her as a "hippo".
Romanians Nicoleta Popescu and Gabriel Malinescu had their first date after two months of on-line flirting and phone calls.
Nicoleta now says she's going to sue Gabriel for emotional distress.
But he says she purposefully deceived him, claiming she weighs eight stone when he reckons she's much heavier.
Gabriel, 33, from Bucharest, told the National newspaper: "I expected to see a blonde, blue-eyed, slim beauty in front of me. But what I got was a gigantic hippo. She told me she weighed eight stones but she was more like 18."
He added: "The passionate embrace I had long-awaited was certainly off the cards when we met."
After a brief encounter, Gabriel told Nicoleta she wasn't his type and he never wanted to hear from her again.
Nicoleta, who's 29, says she's going to sue him for emotional distress.
"He hurt my feelings and has caused me considerable anguish," she said. "He has obviously not heard the saying that beauty is on the inside."

He should sue her back for false representation. He was just as emotionally distressed. He invested 2 months communicating with a hippo.

The band "Bush" named their album
Sixteen Stone because their drummer was so drunk he slept with a very fat groupie on night.

This is too funny and is what happened to my husband. After his first wife died, he met a woman on the internet. After several months of writing to each other, they met for dinner. She was just huge. He was really angry because she had lied to him about her wwight. My honest husband told her why he did not want to see her again. Hmmm. Fortunately, he was not sued.

A stone is 14 pounds. So 8 stone is 112#. Why people still use that unit of measure is beyond me. Just as rational as 16 ounces per (avoirdupois) pound. We have Thomas Jefferson to thank for the US using decimal money rather than the perverse mixed base pence, shillings, and pounds; I wish he'd gone the rest of the way, and we'd dumped the brain-dead Imperial system of measurements back then, too.

a stone is about 15 pounds, meaning she said she was 8*15=120 pounds.

Sounds like both these people suffered from 'unreasonable expectations'.

I couldn't help wondering: where does this hippo live?
I can't imagine such a suit going anywhere except in the U.S.

My car gets 12 Hectors to the Hogshead. I still figure in MPG, but my speedometer is calibrated in furlongs-per-fortnight.
Much simpler that way.
