[history]
Senate Democrats investigating the collapse of Enron Corp. said yesterday that they have no plans to question former Clinton Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, a top official at Citigroup Inc., over its role in hiding Enron's debt from investors.
"I don't," said Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee, when asked whether he intended to call Mr. Rubin as a witness.

Where is that loose cannon bit bull DeLay when we really need him? Surely the House has some interest in visiting with Rubin, if only to just say hello, and by the way, what do you know about prepaid round trip commodity sales that seem to be sort of like loans, which your bank then hedged, and seemed to be marketing with a selling poitn that seemed to be focused on helping needy clinets circumvent GAAP. Sort of like the friendly chat you engage in when you meet a neighbor at the mall kind of thing.

I won't hold my breath waiting for a grilling by the House. The Repubs should make a real scene over this to hopefully enlighten a few more voters that this is all a big partisan ploy. The 'Rats are just milking the issue and its working. Once again I wait to see a little spine and/or balls on the Repub side and know that nothing will happen.

Mr. Lott said reports that the banks may have helped Enron hide debt in offshore arrangements "need to be explored.""need to be explored." about like our panty waist GOP explored the Clinton's pardons, selling missiles to the Chinese, renting the Lincoln bedroom, Reno's Obstruction of Justice dept. etc. etc. etc.. I expect, based on past history, that thats about the most we will hear from our fearless leader Lott of nothing.

Gladly- I found plenty of Sachs links here on FR, but ran into a memory error... I think clicking on the "next" will bring them up. If only the "watchdog press" would pay attention to this stuff...

"Mr. Corzine has denied inflating stock prices while chairman of Goldman Sachs and said investors make their own decisions about whether to buy stocks at certain prices." YO, bleeding heart Phil Donahue!! How bout this for compassion? You and democrats would have chewed up and spit out a republican for such heartlessness.

Well, well, well. I see the screws are tightening. It occurs to me, Torie, that the House may not call Rubin if the DOJ is seriously pursuing a criminal case. A criminal case would be better because the questioning would be out of democrat control.

Mr. Corzine has denied inflating stock prices while chairman of Goldman Sachs and said investors make their own decisions about whether to buy stocks at certain prices. Now hold on a second. You mean to say, Senator, caveat emptor?? Did you clear that remark with the DNC?
