An IDF sniper in the middle of Hamas Land in Gaza? Give me a break.
A cell phone bomb? You think this guy lived this long by being stupid?

Maybe we need a new slogan around these parts "What would Sherman do?" I sent out a rant on 9/12 to about 25 friends. I'm way ahead of you on the Sherman angle, and I live in Atlanta.
William Tecumseh Sherman summed up my feelings on this during his March to the Sea:
"We cannot change the hearts of those people, but we can make war so terrible...[and] make them so sick of war that generations would pass away before they would again appeal to it."
Any person, group, or nation that has harbored or funded anti-American terrorists is an accessory. Any nation or peoples (i.e. the Pallies) that expresses glee in the aftermath is an accessory-after-the-fact. I am not interested in "criminal court of law, beyond a reasonable doubt" proof. If there is a preponderance of evidence to our national command structure, surgical retaliation against appropriate targets (national leadership, military/terrorist sites, national infrastructure, anything else deemed necessary) should be forthcoming, sooner rather than later. In this case, "surgical retaliation" is defined as anything up to and including a W88 475kt warhead.
I end by pointing out that our third President, Thomas Jefferson, and the 5th (I think) Congress declared war against the Barbary Pirates ("the shores of Tripoli"). Historically, we do not just war on nations. I encourage you to encourage your elected congresscritters to declare war on these terrorists and any nation(s) that would harbor/support/protect them. We do not need the "peace in our time" bovine scat that is already being heard from some. We are at war, and we need to explicitly recognize that fact and act on it militarily!

Travis,
I don't think you quite got my meaning. I wasn't suggesting that the old bomb in the cellphone trick would work. I was merely pointing out that you don't drop 1 ton bombs into urban areas and then have genuine surprise when civillians die. And I'm not saying it was the wrong thing to do. I'm merely pointing out that there is some of the Claude Rains aspect to this whole thing as in "I'm shocked, shocked that there is illegal gambling going on in this establishment"
(your winnings, sir).

Nice post, Freedom, and that famous quote from WT Sherman is precisely the point. Agree with all of your sentiments completely.

We should just have tea and invite them over. We'll smile nicely and they'll stop the killing.
Your post indicates ignorance of history.

This event is a message telegraphed to the palieterrs, which if they're at
all cluefull, will be received loud and clear. The message is "you've forced us to a position where all we can do is hit your bad guys with all we've got and hope that we don't hit too many 'innocent civilians', but if we do, that's show biz."
If they do get the message, the upshot will be strong pressure from their non-terr contingents, demanding that the terrs pack it in and get real jobs. No one in his right mind will want to be standing anywhere near one of those turds, and if they find one in their midst, they'll have a strong incentive to rat him out in a heartbeat.

"Graffiti in Arabic reads 'This is the American weapon'" Well that's a stupid graffiti. A better caption would be, "This is your house on Hamas. Any questions?"

I understand your point. No doubt the IDF has been trying the other methods for years, and never got him in their sights. Once Sharon finally had hard intell on his exact location for a fleeting moment, he had a hard decision: let him go (again) or kill him ugly.

------> This is exactly how it went down. In my humble opinion. PLUS this is signal that Hamas honchos don't get to run free. This is Israeli intimidation of Gaza which so far has been untouched. My hope is there will be a general settling of scores starting October 10th. Iraq gets hit by US. And Israel moves in on chaotic Gaza.
Don't yopu think the lower the stockemarkt goes, the more GWBush plans for a pre-election runup to hit Iraq? To rearrage the map of the MidEast for the next 50 years just like the Brits did when they cut and run and made faux borders? Time to reformat the MidEast.

I agree with neutrino. Now all of the sudden there is whining. When the Palestinians kill off Jewish woman and children, they said that is the only way to 'defend themselves'. Now it's the other way around. Instead of blaming Israel, they could ask how a Hamas killer is out on the streets and not in a jail like the PA promised!
To: dennisw
There is going to be a LOT of "reformatting" going on, at home and abroad.
Once we hit Iraq or the markets and banks tank, ALL bets are off!
To: kattracks
Israeli intelligence/surveillance of the islamists never ceases to impress me. I wish their guys were working for us trying to locate Usama.
Another thought... I'll bet many of this guy's cohorts were at the funeral. I'm sure you all know what I'm thinking... :-)
To: Travis McGee
Failing markets and banks plus war. Plus terrorism.
"May you live in interesting times." How many times have I heard that stupid Chinese aphosrism?

I hope it's not as interesting as 1929-45, but it very well may turn out that way.
BTW, I heard that his "bodyguards" were also killed. That is significant because a high ranking terrorist surrounds himself only with his MOST trusted underlings: the bodyguards are also often the next leaders in line, so the IDF may have killed other terrorists of high value in the attack.
To: Tolik
G-d knows how many Israeli are dead because he was not eliminated before.Good point. I don't think Israel should target civilians, but think about it, if Osama were in our sites but had some civilians next to him, what would/should we do?

Dear IDF,
Thank you very much!
I don't know of all the details, but I do know that this wasn't just another military mission. Things have broken loose. I mean joy has broken loose among the supporters of Israel.
I was surprised (pleasantly) to see the reaction to this mission. It was universal joy.
It has exploded, (the joy) among the supporters of Israel and the IDF.
I was in a KSR pizza joint in Manhattan today and after the transaction I said "Shalom, Go Israel!" and joy was released. From me and then from the gentleman behind the counter.
I didn't have to explain... he knew! We know!
Praise Yah! From the rising of the sun, to it's going down, Praise Yah!
God bless the IDF, now and forever!

Your post indicates ignorance of history.Well your post indicates an inability to read and understand simple sentences. I have consistently made it clear that I saw the attack as justified. I did object to his view that making neighbourhoods go "boom!" was desirable.
