"This one could go down," says another Republican.

That's what I like, a positive attitude. < /sarcasn >

Gee, how important is it that we take back the Senate? The President must hold a news conference and introduce Owens to the public. No more Pickering nonsense in which they were too late to stop the derailment.

Utah's Orrin Hatch, the ranking Republican on the committee, pledged to fight what he called the "deceptions, distortions, and demagoguery orchestrated against [Owen's] nomination."

Oh Gee Orrin is gonna put up a fight

I feel soooooooooooo much better now .... NOT!!

Now, would that be the same Hatch that refused to conduct a trial? Would that be the same Hatch that won't fight for any of the Appeals Court Hostages?

I gotta tell ya, I love President Bush and think he is a very decent and honorable man, but I am sick to death that he won't fight for anything. What is the point of having control of the white house if Bush can't get any of his nominees confirmed (not just judicial either)? I am very disappointed that he has not brought the moral vision he has in foreign policy to the domestic front.

No. Pickering, they let go, Because he was Older, and would not have served for a long time anyway....Justice Owen is the indicia of their will to fight.

California Democrat Dianne Feinstein, who is chairing the hearings, pledged to "keep an open mind on this nominee," but told Owen she was concerned about the "feeling among some that you are, in a sense, a judicial activist."

Unlike, say, the Ninth Circuit, right, Senator?

When are the GOP members of this committee going to stop capitulating to Leahy and his cronies? This is what is wrong with the Republican leadership (or should I say lack of leadership) on the Hill! Daschle, Gephardt and Hillary issue their marching orders, and the Dems trudge along like little clonetroopers to do their masters' bidding. We're stuck with Trent Lott and the hand-wringing of the remainder of the leadership on the Hill who do nothing but fight among themselves and sit on their hands with their collective thumbs up their butts while the Dems walk all over them.

God save us from idle-brained know-nothings without stones between their legs!

If the Democrats kill the Owen nomination, there will be hell to pay. I don't they they will kill it.

They'll try to use the nomination to beat up on conservatives in general, but then she'll be approved.

The Democrats don't want to hand the Republicans a campaign issue, or fire up Republican voters to turn out in November.

Excellent-pure registered in action!! I wanna slap teddy and diane and that dispicable leahy around awhile with my rabid words regarding their creepy, nasty assault on good, good people.

These freaks are in the business of putting party above what is good for our nation and I have really had it....it is time for us to go to action. Nothing, NOTHING, is more important that getting good people onto our benches.

When democrats go about crushing really good people, I envision them all sluming around the Davidian home at WACO, sitting in their tanks, gleefully taking aim at the relatively powerless Davidians, knowing that big bill and big hill want the standoff ended, AT ANY COST. They make me sick.

"I am greatly troubled by her near-unwavering support for positions of businesses and corporations over that of injured individuals," said Massachusetts Democrat Edward Kennedy.

Funny, I’m troubled by the same attitude displayed by the Kennedy clan regarding those injured, raped or killed by drunken family members.

I am moved to request that each of you join me in praying in President Bush's judicial nominees. I believe this can happen, beyond a shadow of a doubt, if we prey for justice on the nominee's behalf and for truth and justice to flow into the hearts of those voting on the nominees. God's will will be done, and we are pressed to ask for righteousness to reign. Thanks guys, let's form a formidable weapon on behalf of justice with our prayers.

I believe each one of you understand the power of prayer. Please take the time, after reading my post, to join me, with your heart and soul, asking forgiveness and stating your request with complete praise and love for our greatest Dad, our mutual Father, whom we love so deeply.

I agree. The Pickering fiasco was before the Ninth Circuit decision which opened the eyes of many sheeple as in: "Where do these loony judges come from?" I, (as I'm sure were many other FReepers) was more than happy to explain to my uninformed countrymen where these loons came from and how to best avoid more of the same.
