SC to unveil "In God We Trust" license plates in '03

(Columbia-AP) July 22, 2002 - The latest license plate issued by the state will have the motto "In God We Trust."

Division of Motor Vehicles officials say production of the plates will start next year. They cost $24.

The motto is written across the top of the tag. American and South Carolina flags are in the center.

Spartanburg Representative Lanny Littlejohn says the idea for the tag after seeing the surge of patriotism following the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Louisiana is doing the same thing. In order to go forward with the plans, they need at least 1000 applicants.

If you are a Louisianaian and want to apply for an "In God We Trust" license plate, you can call Representative Crowe's office at 985-643-3600.

Is the slogan voluntary? It sounds like that's the case with the Louisiana plates.

If not, there's always tape.

Poorly written "blurb" from some news organization. I assume this is a specialty tag. I also assume it will cost $24 more than the standard tag. I could be wrong, but those are my assumptions.

I wonder if I have to give up my Citadel vanity tag for it? I hope not. I could end up with a Citadel tag with the "In God We Trust" motto, the Globe and Anchor sticker, NRA sticker, and a Confederate battle standard all on the Jeep. I'll have to rent a car next time I'm forced to travel north of the MD line.
