The U.S. Forest Service told one of its tenants that his 20-foot flagpole is unauthorized and has to go.

David Knickerbocker has flown the American flag on the pole next to his summer cabin in the El Dorado National Forest for nearly two decades. He leases a quarter-acre lot.

I was just reading another thread about the pledge in schools. Why is there any problem pushing these issues as first amendment issues. Your expression of religious beliefs and patriotic feelings is just as protected as the idiot that descrated the virgin in a painting in NY (federally funded I might add).

The main reason you are so upset, conservobabe, is that it IS a violation of what you naturally see as an expression of personal significance. Technically, by them blocking your ability to SEE the flag would also violate YOUR ability to feel the pride and love of your country... which again would be just another expression.

Dude, there is not an IOTA of exaggeration in this either. In several instances of taking samples for hazardous materials (aerially deposited lead near highway bridges and spills of transformer fluid around lightpoles) I have had to have an Archaeologist AND an official Native American to watch me hand auger soil with a 2 inch diameter auger 1-1.5 feet deep... and they've wanted the unused dirt back sometimes too!

I agree, but to "push" something, you must go to court. This man should not have to do so...as it is his right to fly our flag. Why should he have to pay lawyers to uphold the Constitution. No, I say, let his congressmen (if they have the gonads) go to bat for him in legislation.

I cant believe this crap! Wheres it all going to end? I think its about time to march in the streets of America and demand that our federal, state, and local governments get out of our everyday lives, dramatically reduce taxes, and gut regulations!

Now, Ridge wants the military to become a federal police force! Place them on the border, absolutely, but do not turn them into federal cops!

I don't know why, but this reminds me of Sept 13, 2001. Yes, I went to my district fair here in my small town in Missouri. Many of the vendors had flags flying and even signs proclaiming their patriotism.

But the military recruitment stations? No flags, not even one for the Army, Navy, Air Force or Marine. In fact, the Army and Marine stations had YELLOW RIBBONS adorning their tents.

What is with the FEDS that they cannot abide our flag waving over them?
