That was my thought as well. I'm somewhat hopeful about Iran. Almost 50% of their population was born after the Hostage Crisis, and they have repeatedly shown that they disagree with the ruling theocrats and want pro-Western reforms. There is hope for a solid ally in the future there. It could even be that statements like Rafsanjani's will help inflame them, and cause them to act sooner, rather than vote later, for reform. Iran's vast experience at warring with Iraq just might come in handy, too. ;^)
