MORRISON, Tenn. July 20 Former presidential candidate Al Gore accused the Bush administration Saturday of lying to Americans about the nation's economy.
At a campaign event for a congressional candidate, Gore told Democrats that electing Lincoln Davis could be the difference in continuing the Bush administration's economic policies.
The Bush administration has "lied about the future liabilities they have put on our shoulders as taxpayers," Gore said.
The former vice president prompted a cheer when he said: "I don't care what anybody says. I think Bill Clinton and I did a damn good job."
The recent spate of corporate corruption cases reflects the administration's policies and its appointees, who are supposed to police big business, Gore said.
He compared the administration's handling of the economy to business decisions that led to the collapse of Enron, saying Bush is creating a huge deficit.
"It's going to lead to bigger deficits than when the first Bush was there," Gore said.
He said the administration should "completely scrap its economic plan and its team on Monday ... start over from scratch and start rebuilding this economy."
Gore, who says he is undecided about another presidential race in 2004, endorsed Davis in the Aug. 1 Democratic primary for the 4th Congressional District.
Former aerospace company owner Fran Marcum is also seeking the Democratic nomination. Former Safety Commissioner Mike Greene and Tullahoma alderman Janice Bowling are seeking the Republican nomination.
Incumbent Rep. Van Hilleary, a Republican, is instead running for governor.
The rural district stretches from Alabama to Kentucky and includes counties that elected Gore to the U.S. House in 1976.

He said [Please take a seat and have some one remove any sharp objects] "Why in 1998, my head of the SEC, Arthur Leavit came to me with evidence that a lot of these Big Corporations were cooking their books and not being truthful with their EMPLOYEES and investors. I tried to stop them but the Republicans stopped me." Saw him say it on last nites Portland news.

Kudos for the great diagram. I'd say that the whole country is going through these stages post-9-11. Much of the nation is still disoriented. Algore is attempting to provide his numbing solutions. However, adaptation requires "struggling". If we forego the "struggle" to correct the abuses during Clinton-Algore, our nation will never have a new direction. More importantly, our citizenry will be stuck without hope, growth, and healing.

He's spouting pure propaganda. The recession started under Clinton. The Democrats spooked the market.

"I don't care what anybody says. I think Bill Clinton and I did a damn good job." Is impeachment a good thing? It depends on the meaning of the word "failure."
To: Torie
If ALGone had been elcted.. now there are a poor choice of words. You see, If ALGone had been elected, the military would have been cut even further. That's number one. Thought Janet Reno was bad? Think Again. ALGone has listed out his ideas in black&whte for everyone to read, who can. Go and see some of his lamebrain and no-brain ideas in his book "Earth in the Balance". The guy is a loony. He speaks of naturally occuring clouds as "Noctiluminescent clouds" and says that they are man made and signs of humans being bad. The guy is pathological. He needs meds, stat, and observation.
