Vanity....Allegations regarding the Elizabeth Smart Case.

Posted on 07/19/2002 10:08:49 PM PDT by Partisan Hack

I have been relatively active on some of the boards regarding the Elizabeth Smart case. As such, I have received numerous e-mails. This one came in just a little while ago. I am providing it for your consideration and comment.

Church or no church I believe ANY parent would have dialed 911 before anything, not run around the neighborhood and calling bishops and all. I realize Mormons are deeply into all this formality but it's their child. Call them after. But before?

Also, there's the matter of all the "people" in the home before the police arrive. I cannot believe that one of those people didn't say.. Wait.. we shouldn't be here now.

Then there's the matter of a kidnapper knowing exactly where the child's bedroom is. I know 14 is not a child, but it is to me. The kidnapper had to pass the parents bedroom not once but twice. Then he allowed her to put her sneakers/shoes on. Would you waste that precious time?

Then there's the matter of the 9 year old waiting two hours before notifying the parents. Tell me, did she really look at the clock? I doubt it. Apparently she was going to the parents room but saw the kidnapper in the house. Where did she see the kidnapper for the second time? Why did he linger in the house with his victim?

We have not heard of anything being taken from the home as in a burglary.. where are the fingerprints? We don't even know if there are any. How did the perp enter the home? If the doors were locked he either had a key or the door was unlocked. I find an unlocked door hard to believe. What was the exit route?

Now as for the child, the 9 year old seeing the perp. She can see he's wearing a "polo" shirt, that he was wearing a jacket, she can see hair on his hands, a hat all this while pretending to be asleep. But no composite? Why wasn't that done?

I have also read that she was in fact questioned by the authorities three times and each time in the presence of her mother.

Any and all information that the public has been fed was contradicted after the fact. Mr Smart himself can not answer a straight question because he doesnt want to jeopardize the case. But yet he goes on a Press Conf. and tells us about a letter that was recieved. A letter the police were, at the time, unaware of. A letter that Uncle Tom FAXED to the police department and today we hear about an E-mail he "accidently" deleted. Again, the police knew nothing.

Now you can laugh about the Enquirer being a rag magazine but they have no fear of anything especially law suits and have, believe it or not, award winning journalists working for them. This alleged "gay" porn found on the Smart computers.. this collection of supposed sexual perversion would destroy them in the Mormon community if proven to be true. When Mr Smart was questioned on it, his answer was not something a "normal" person would say, (in my opinion anyway).

Instead, he said something like.. it's irrelevant or nothing to be concerned with. Someone else might say "that's absurd" or "yeah, so what. I had porn on my computer. Who cares!"

It seems to me that this whole ordeal is either a total sham for money or notoriety or he knows exactly where his daughter is and always has but it's gone beyond his control and now has to play his own game.

In my own opinion, and I stress this as I have no solid proof to back it up, I think this child is alive and now with one of the other wives. I think Smart got himself into severe financial trouble or he was being blackmailed because of his sexual preferences.

These are just a few thoughts of mine so tear it apart if you will but these are my opinions and thanks for asking.

More Wackiness in the Avenues:

Slain Cat Reports In Avenues Expand
Saturday, July 20, 2002

BY ASHLEY BROUGHTON
THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE

As many as four cats may have been killed and mutilated in the Avenues, authorities said Friday, including one whose body was discovered Thursday in front of a vacant home.
The 3-year-old black male cat was found near 750 E. Northcrest Drive, said Temma Martin, spokeswoman for Salt Lake County Animal Services. Its body had been propped against the sloping yard so its injuries could be seen from the street.
A hole had been cut in the cat's side, severing its ribs, and its intestines and spleen were missing. Four small holes were also found on its head, stretching from ear to ear. The cat was well cared for, Martin said, and may belong to a nearby resident. Like a cat found Wednesday, it apparently died from blunt-force trauma to the head.
"The two we've picked up in the last couple of days, not only [has the mutilator] obviously caused great suffering to the animals," but the bodies were deliberately placed with an apparent intention to shock those discovering them, Martin said.
The first possible mutilation occurred in late May, Martin said. A man called animal services to report a dead cat near 3rd Avenue and H Street, and authorities picked up and disposed of the body. At the time, authorities had no reason to suspect the cat had been mutilated, Martin said. It was assumed the cat was attacked by another animal.
The man, who did not own the cat, called authorities back Thursday after mutilation reports surfaced to say he thought the cat's throat may have been slit, Martin said. It was not known if any of the cat's organs were missing.
The second possible case was reported Wednesday, when a man living near J Street and 6th Avenue called animal services to say he had found a dead cat two weeks ago and disposed of the body without calling authorities, also believing it had been attacked by another animal.
What could be the third case was discovered Wednesday, when an Avenues resident left her home near H Street and 5th Avenue and discovered the body of her 7-year-old male cat. A hole had been cut in the cat's side, its intestines were removed and its heart was missing.
The hole in the cat found Wednesday was on the opposite side from that in the body found Thursday, Martin said. Investigators believe those responsible may have a working knowledge of feline anatomy and know where certain organs are located.
No blood was found near the body of either cat, she said. Authorities say the two cats may have been picked up and killed elsewhere before being returned.
The Humane Society of Utah has posted a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
Taylorsville residents Steve and Sarah Russell have added $500. "We know what it's like to have a pet come up missing or die," Steve Russell said Thursday.
KALL Radio talk-show host Tom Barberi had raised about $2,000 in additional reward money on Friday. Those with information are asked to call animal services.

Could this nut be someone involved in Elizabeth's disapearance?

Man, you people are viscious. If it turns out that the Smart familiy had absolutely nothing to do with Elizabeth's disappearance can I expect to see retractions? I didn't think so. Keep slithering.

Dead cats leave carcasses. Humans leave bodies.

RE: Public Relations 101
I worked for a large PR firm and was continually amazed at the seemingly minute visualizations that were used to get a point across to the public. The solutions were always "containment" of the situation. This could be a similar idea.

TG the Smarts are staying off TV. Their increasingly bizarre statements and faux letters and emails were distracting, to say the least.

You gotta admit Ed Smart was pretty slick this week with that bogus story about the 'lost email' that drew out this Newhouse who had been sitting on the Ricci in the Jeep Jun 3 and fence repair in Cheyenne Jun 7 knowledge with Ricci's attorney since the kidnapping. Do you think it was a coincidence Ed put out the bogus email story and Newhouse had her lawyer hastily draft and submit that affidavit within hours to ensure they were first in line for the reward money. Yeah, Ed Smart is dumb like a fox and he's doing great. And he's on his own, no help from LE. Ed will probably hire a competent PI this week.

"By appearing in front of a Temple, the Smarts are making several statements. One is that they have the power and authority of the Mormon Church behind them. Another is that they --the family--are longtime upstanding members of the Mormon community, an by association, above reproach."

Early articles in the Deseret News reported that President Hinckley himself had contacted the elder Mr. Smart, and had also personally visited with Ed and Lois Smart. Additionally, it was reported that church leaders had issued what was termed an "unusual" statement of concern and support in this case.

I am not saying that there is anything wrong with President Hinckley and the Mormon leaders offering public support to the Smart family. I am simply pointing out that based upon these published reports, one might easily conclude that the Smart family has the power and authority of the Mormon church behind them. Why is it that any suggestion of this immediately gets debunked as "some weird conspiracy"?

"It appears to be nothing," said Salt Lake Police spokesman Sgt. Fred Louis. "It's not going to change the case on way or another."

A news report stated that a Utah resident -- Dea Ann Newhouse -- swore in an affidavit that her sister saw potential suspect Richard Ricci in Cheyenne two days after the 14-year-old girl's abduction.

Salt Lake County Assistant District Attorney Kent Morgan says that's not so. He says there was no sworn affidavit, only a statement complaining about the attorney for Ricci, and that the statement made no mention of when Ricci was supposed to have been seen.

And F-B-I spokesman Kevin Eaton says there's no credible information that Ricci was in Wyoming after the girl's disappearance.

Here ya go, out of the mouth of three witnesses. Any time you have Sgt. Fred Louis, the DA, and the FBI saying it's not credible, it's nothing, it's not going to change the case one way or another, you know you've just seen one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle in this case.

Could this be WHY the mom stated on one of her rare appearances that you can have a life with her?

typo--Word used should have been Can't.

That makes more sense. Remember right after the abduction, police felt that Elizabeth was being stalked. A lot of stalkers feel if they can possess their victim, then the stalker's life will be hunky-dory. And it turns out not to be because the victim fights, screams, whatever, and then the stalker turns angry. Taken in that context, it would make sense what Lois Smart said, probably on advice of FBI profilers.

The Smarts do have a spokesman, his name is Chris Thomas, I see him quite frequently on the local news here and in national interviews.

The Smarts aren't appearing in front of the Salt Lake Temple. They are using their local church house PARKING LOT for their press conferences. The press conferences are being held outside. I have rarely seen the whole of the outside of the church building on any interviews, and almost never the lettering that is on each and every LDS churchouse that says The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I do know that most of the interviews have taken place in the church, because of the rooms. I think LKL's interviews have taken place in the Smart home.

And the parking lot of the local Justice Center or police station is being used.

Could this (polygamy such as the Tom Green situation) be WHY the mom stated on one of her rare appearances that you can have a life with her? Is this why the aunt stated the authorities are working with them? I always thought it was the other way around..who are they protecting??

I thought it was a typo but Bella mentioned it again. I saw the conference & what Lois Smart said to the perp was, "You CAN'T have a life with her..."

The FBI profilers were on an airplane within two days of the Elizabeth Smart case. They came from Quantico. I'll try to find the story. Remember the comment that was made about the perp stopping to make sure Elizabeth had shoes on? That came from an FBI profiler in SLC.

I remember EnquiringMind posting this story from National Enquirer stating the same--

Hi All,

Not much news in this week's NE.....article regarding MK and "voice lineup" to help identify kidnapper....also, Pete Romero told Enquirer that he allowed police to tape his voice when they grilled him for 90 minutes. "The heavily tattooed Romero admits he served 5 years for attempted rape of a 14-year-old girl after getting her high on LSD, once faced an attempted murder charge, and has fathered 13 children. "I was a bad guy, but I've turned my life around". He denied involvement in Smart case". Also, MK told police that she woke up when her sister was getting out of bed. Elizabeth accidentally hit her toe and yelled "ouch". The kidnapper then took Elizabeth into the bathroom in the hallway, shut the door and turned on the light. They stayed in the bathroom a few minutes but MK couldn't hear what they were saying. They came out of bathroom and kidnapper told Elizabeth to put on sneakers so she wouldn't make noise.

The Globe has a somewhat interesting story about Angela Ricci's friend, Deann Newhouse, who testified before GJ and says Angela admitted she's unsure of Ricci's whereabouts that night (too many Somas). Also, friend claims she saw a man resembling Edmunds with Ricci in Jeep on June 2.

Star has nothing this week regarding Smart case.

There you have it!

Newhouse basically lied for Ricci at the grand jury and never mentioned seeing him in his Jeep on Jun 3 or the fact her sister saw him building her fence in Cheyenne on Jun 7. She told Ricci's attorney Smith, who was her attorney last year for a forgery charge, about these sightings and that her sister had pictures, maybe trying to blackmail Ricci. She says Smith told her to get rid of the pictures. At some point Newhouse apparently decided she wanted the reward money and was considering submitting her story to LE. I think Ed Smart got wind this witness was out there that had made these sightings so he made up a bogus story about an email from a neighbor of someone who had a fence made in Wyoming and asked them to re-email him. This worked like a charm and she went immediately to another attorney and the article said he hurriedly wrote up an affidavit with her story and gave it to the DA so her claim to the reward would be in ahead of this other person that supposedly emailed Smart. If her story weren't true and she didn't think it would lead to reward money she wouldn't be ratting her friend's husband out, but after all, he's going away for good anyway. Angela may get part of the take, who knows.

I wish you would do your homework, because you don't know what you are talking about. That isn't a Temple, it's a ward or stake center. IF, they were giving their press conferences from Temple Square, I might agree with you.

Anyone who knows anything about the Church hierarchy, which includes most people in Utah, knows that the Smarts aren't any more influential than any other family in a 10 million member church.
