Yes ---a good example is what little President Fox has done to help the people of Ciudad Juarez, he declined the help of the FBI ---and we certainly know he's not afraid to demand US involvement in many other things. There are many who believe the killers are part of the protected drug cartels or certain wealthy individuals who would have ties to politicians. Corruption and inefficiency make it easy to commit crimes in Mexico especially to the poor people. There are many children from poor families missing and found killed, many who are too frightened of their police to even report it to them.
Bill O'Reilly spoke with a CA state assemblyman on his show on Thursday night (I think it was). They were discussing the fact that Mexico consistently refuses to extradite even the most outrageous criminal to the U.S., if that means they will be executed OR EVEN IMPRISONED FOR LIFE!
In Mexico, according to O'Reilly's guest, the heaviest prison sentence is "forty years," and they will not allow one of "theirs" to be heartlessly mistreated by the gringos.
It is pretty sickening. This assemblyman said that they are trying very hard to get Pres. Bush to begin making extradition for capital crimes a condition in further negotiations with Mexico.
I think those of us in the border states in particular should contact the White House in support of that.
