Immigration officials say that tighter border security since September 11 has caused a continuing decline in the number of people crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, but others are not so sure why all is quieter on the southwestern front.
For the eighth month in a row, the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service reported a sharp drop in the number of immigrants detained entering from Mexico, viewed as the best gauge of how many are crossing the border illegally.

Who isn't?
Let's hope the problem continues to improve.
They are purposely making things bad for their own people so they will actively make the decision to cross the border into the US, therefore relieving the Mexican government of the burden of providing services.
Behind China and Islamic terrorism, Mexico is next on the greatest threats to America, in my opinion. I will go on record and say that all three are linked in some way.
Its the numbers they dont tell you about that are the concern.
When Arizona sent National Guard troops to support the Border Patrol, at the official border crossings, didn't they move troops that were patrolling the Coronado Forest on the border already? They left the forest unprotected.
Arizona pulled National Guard troops from where they were needed and put them where they were useless, right?
I believe the Border Patrol has generated these reductions in apprehensions by leaving big, gaping holes for the illegals to sneak through. They've moved agents to the desert 'to save lives' and have taken the National Guard out.
The Border Patrol guesses how many illegals have slipped in by multiplying the number apprehended by some factor. How many do they claim they've apprehended, each month, and by what factor are they multiplying that number to create their guess-timate, now.
I agree with F16Fighter on this one. I believe these numbers are a bunch of crap.
Okay, let's now multiply that 640,000 by a factor of ten, which I've heard mentioned by others and we have...well, you can do the math.
Even if we go by the more conservative Border Patrol numbers, that's still way too many!
So the article hints that the numbers are slightly down...so what. There are still too many illegal scumbag aliens getting into our nation, threatening our economic stability and possibly our national security. But you seem to not be bothered. In fact, judging by your past contributions to illegal scumbag alien posts, you seem to favor people breaking into America's house and threatening us. Agenda? Yeah, I have one. Evidently you do to, dude.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
That's what I think they're doing, I don't think we've ever seen a foreign government or it's leader as actively involved in immigration to the US, Castro did it but his was much more limited. I don't blame the victims of that government but our government should get the upper hand in this issue and make Fox quit trying to call all the shots.
Living on the border, I don't see the number going down. What I do see is that the inept BP management are playing political games for some reason.

Hey Luis, everyone doesn't have your gift for making BS up and spinning statistical evidence to fit your twisted view of society.
Somebody in our present administration does, though.
LOL!
When Vincente Fox holds a huge press conference accusing the "U.S. aggressors and President Bush" of "virtual war against Mexico by harrassing and murdering it's poor innocents"...
To compound the irony of Fox's absurd accusations we'll then discover Fox's political consultant had been none other than James Carville.
Over close to where I live, the Hispanic population has jumped from near zero to over 5000 in the town of Fort Payne. Fort Payne is officially the "Sock Capital of the World" and has a huge Sock Industry that probable produces 30-40% of the USA socks. It is one of the very few textile industries that has yet to go overseas/border. It has usually basically been the main staple of work for most of the county. Kids getting out of high school had a job, but since the influx of illegals, it is very difficult to find a job for local ladies (many who are elderly). The mills have started dropping production rates/insurance/401k/pay since it is no longer competive need for attracting workers. Some pay their employees via non company means to avoid IRS rules.
These jobs used to make a good production worker around 10-14 dollars an hour with blue cross insurance and nice 401k benefits. (VI Prewitt mills still offer these benefits). There was never a retirement plan (other than 401k).
The cost of living is cheap around Fort Payne so this was enought to raise a family on, but illegal immirgration has made mill owners greedy. New tecnology has enabled the mill owners to obtain machenery to drop several steps out of the production. (EX. the need to sew the toe in each sock manually is now done in one process, eliminating the whole seaming dept.). These machines are expensive so the mill owners have adopted a 7/24 12 hour shift policy. (I don't have time to argue the effect a 12 hours shift has on local churches that need men to serve in positions each weekend).
Illegals are ruining this town. Period.
