[history]
Sen. Jean Carnahan, D-Mo., may be a novice in public office, but she's outpacing her Missouri predecessors in the fund-raising department.
Carnahan's latest campaign report shows that she has raised $7.59 million over the last 18 months - more than any other Missouri candidate has ever raised in that short a time including adjustments for inflation.

Like $7 packs of cigs ? Carnahan's pals sure do.

So how does it look for Jim Talent? Is he going to get the majority of votes or has Jean Carnahan suddenly garnered grass-roots support.

Early polls show that Carnahan is ahead but not by much. It's still much too early to call.

Powder..Patch..Ball FIRE!
Here is some recent info from the National Republican Senatorial Committee
Senator Carnahan officially announced her candidacy for the 2002 election on Sunday, April 28, 2002, she will face former U.S. Representative and 2000 Missouri gubernatorial candidate Jim Talent. On October 9, 2001, former Representative Jim Talent announced at a news conference in St. Louis that he would be challenging Carnahan. Jim Talent is a strong candidate for Senate considering his many years of service for Missouri in the U.S. House of Representatives and his near victory in the 2000 Governors race. A recent poll gives Talent a 48 percent to 44 percent lead over Carnahan.

Glad to hear Jim Talent is leading. Now, if only the dead and dogs in St. Louis don't vote this time around...

Proving that Senators are more nearly national, at-large representatives than they are representatives of a particular state. The ultimate, unhappy consequence of the seventeenth amendment.

Someone said Senator Bond was thinking it would take the Missouri National Guard to keep the dead folks away from the polls in St. Louis.

Glad to hear Jim Talent is leading.Talent isn't leading. Out of six polls I've seen, each leads in three. Carnahan has had slightly larger leads, though all polls had the candidates within the margin of error. Consider this race a dead heat, with an advantage to Carnahan because of her fundraising.
