King Abdullah II denies claims of American troops existence in Jordan

Amman, July 15 (PETRA)--His Majesty King Abdullah II Monday denied existence of any American troops in Jordan and any understanding with USA concerning an offensive plan against Iraq.

In an interview with NBC , His Majesty said that the Middle East region can not handle striking Iraq , particularly as the consequences of such a step can not be predicted. His Majesty affirmed that, during his contacts and talks with international community, he noticed some expressing reservation while others rejection concerning a military strike against Iraq.

The King warned that military option is not the sound means for solving disputes with Baghdad. He called anew to resort to dialogue for solving the pending issues.

Responding to a question if US would alone strike Iraq, His Majesty said that it will find itself in a difficult situation unless it could convince the international community on the wisdom of striking Iraq, and that there will be a large opposition by the international community, as well as misunderstanding for such a step.

His Majesty stressed that striking Iraq will lead to severe frustration in the Arab world, especially under the light of prevailing belief that US has a special policy concerning the Middle East and does not look to the volume of destruction and consequences that might happen.

His Majesty said that the attempts of disintegrating and striking Iraq will lead to a catastrophe and will create uncontrollable case of violence around Iraq .

September 1970
Jordan and Palestinian Forces under the PLO fight during Black September.

Because the Palestinians were forced to leave their land after war with Israel in 1967, they wanted a place to live. Some Palestinians fighters, called fedayeen wanted to make Jordan their country. King Hussein gave them many chances to obey Jordanian rules, but by 1970, fighting took place. The Jordanian army defeated the fedayeen, and forced many Palestinians to follow Jordanian laws or leave.

Sigh.. you're as extreme as the Muslims that want to destroy us. Will you please clear your head and listen to reason.. moderation.. the guy has to answer to what 40 to 50 percent of his population that is Palistian.. get a grip on yourself.. no head of state does or says anything without thinking what it could do to the nation as a whole(I can't believe I really have to explain this to you.) please for everyone's sake.. take a deep breath and mutter to yourself over and over... I am not a head of state... I am not a head of state... then please say... I will try and understand their position... I will try and open my mind... try it and you might actually learn to become realistic of the situation in Jordan.

In his case, I'd say so. Although, he needs to get his act together!
Was that one of those arranged marriages?......

With King Abdullah at the helm, Jordan can make the peace — and then make Palestine. These are two Herculean tasks that can't be accomplished all at once.

To be great again, it seems that we need the English or... Lawrence: ...or?...
...what no man can provide, Mr. Lawrence. We need a miracle!

Well it wasn't a shidduch, I can you that!

Ya threw me a curve. I hadda look that one up!

shidduch

shid·duch [shídd(schwa)k ] (plural shid·duch·im [sh(imacracute)dd(schwa)kim ]) noun
prospective Jewish marriage:  a prospective Jewish marriage that was formerly usually arranged by a professional matchmaker ( shadchan )

[Late 19th century. Via Yiddish from Hebrew šidd(umacr)(klineunder) "negotiation (of an arranged marriage)."]

I think you're quite right that Abdullah's circumstances make it very difficult to judge what any official Jordanian public pronouncements mean or what their real audience is. It's also worth looking at Jordan's borders sometime: other than Israel, his neighbors are Syria, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia.

I wonder very much what effect the removal of Saddam and (hopefully) the thorough intimidation of Syria will have on Abdullah's role in the Middle East. After Black September, extreme prejudice against Palestinian militancy must surely be a deep if hidden principle of Hashemite policy. And it's pretty clear that the Hashemites are capable of doing normal business with Israel, even if it's without a lot of affection.

Without two Arab terror states on his flanks, capable of punishing cooperation with Israel, Abdullah might be able to play a constructive role in managing the West Bank Palestinians and even sell it to his people as helping to free them from Israel.

It's also important to remember that a western victory in Iraq will have an effect on the Arab masses as well as on Arab governments - and all the experience we have says it will not be, as the Left says (and hopes), to inflame the "street" and make it unmanageable. All experience is that the street gets less violent the stronger we seem. So Abdullah's domestic dynamics might well be different after the lightning falls on Saddam.

It's refreshing to see someone that does make life to be simple. People seem to throw around their opinions and make them seem like fact or reality. The reality is when we see a decision made whether it be Roe v Wade or the Versailles treaty after WWI people want to think that it's a simple 1 + 1 = 2 situation.. there are many many factors that weigh into decisions.. why you think state leaders have so many people that give them advice.. Bush doesn't know everything.. he has a think tank.. a group of people that will throw him every single possible situation.. so you come up with a plan that like a census has a certain +/- range of certainly that you think is acceptable. I wish people would understand for once that you just can't have Israel for instance move the entire population of Palistine into the surrounding countries.. sure it sounds good.. but nobody really thinks.. or even if they did think.. really know the consquences of those actions.. this is why we have governments.. think tanks.. and not a bunch of Hitlers running the world...

Lots more Jews were moved from the surrounding countries: Iraq, Jordan, Syria, etc., Jews were booted out. Don't believe everything you see on the Crescent News Network.
