What other government services do these people receive benefit from?

They show up in hospitals with a welfare card - I've seen this.

We protect them and fight their wars.

They benefit from our way of life, which was paid for in the blood of our, not their, young men.

I think they are parasites because somebody else does their fighting. They get to live their life the way they want because of the rest of us.

Quakers and Jehovah Witnesses don't serve in the armed forces, either. I'm sure there are other religions that don't allow their members to serve in the armed forces, but these two are all I can remember right now. If others know of any other religions that don't allow service in the armed forces, ping me.

The Amish with welfare cards? I flat out don't believe it! They pay their bills to the last penny and they refuse to take handouts!

We protect them and fight their wars.

I'd be more than happy to protect a way of life that would benefit most of us if we were smart enough to realize it.

And I suppose you are proud that many of them were severely tortured at the hands of our government for sticking to their beliefs. They offered to serve our country otherwise but that wasn't good enough. My own great-grandfather was forced to stand for hours with a cold faucet dripping on his shaved head... and that was some of the nicer stuff he went through...

Funny how you never saw them making a fuss over this... never will...

Amish using a "Welfare card" in a hospital?

Surrrrrrrreeeeee!

The Amish pay cash. They don't "do" public assisstance. They pay much more in property taxes than they "take" from the government. They also don't fill up prisons, public schools or violate the Biblical Covenants.

Pontificate upon that which you have knowledge of.

If there were people who claimed to be Amish who showed up at a hospital wiht a welfare card - these people were not practicing Amish - at least not from any group I have heard of.

I'm not saying this didn't or doesn't happen, but then again, there are a lot of people in the world that will claim anything if it will get them an advantage....

During the Civil War, those who did not want to fight on religious grounds were allowed to more or less hire a professional soldier to take their place. Many, if not most, Amish and Mennonite men took advantage of this option. But it was the law of the land at the time.

There has always been an exemption for conscientious objectors, beginning with the Revolutionary War. It was ok with General Washington, even though it's not ok with you.
