I had a conversation with a Christian palestinian recently. His comments were intriguing.

He defended the palestinian people against the generalization that all of them are militants and terrorists.

"Not true", he said, "most of them are secular".

I asked him to clarify, as it sounded as though he was saying that the non-religious palestinians are not the problem, but that the militant come from the "religious" sector.

He agreed that Islam is the biggest problem (though he was careful to point out it is not the only one).
