Wouldn't you know ABC would run this during the summer when no one is watching. But you can't ever accuse them of not reporting on it.

To: Deb; Wright is right!
This was said very well by Wright is right on another thread: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/715191/posts#11

Actually, ABC makes money on Stossell's reports. When they run, a completely different audience shows up than the usual suspects who watch Baba Wawa's 20/20 most Friday nights. ABC knows that this particular audience segment has money to spend, and advertiser interest is usually high.

Also ABC can save face with its east-coast liberal peers by saying that they "buried" Stossell on a Friday night during summer vacation season, and that of those choir members who DID show up to watch it, ABC made money on the show. Plus, a lot of people who watch a Stossell program wind up ordering tapes of it from ABC, so they make a few bucks on it that way, too.

ABC really doesn't mind John. They just tend to put him on at safe times when there aren't too many minds-that-can-be-changed watching. And then there's the internal entertainment factor. Whenever John shows up to make a point on 20/20, Baba Wawa's head invariably does a few Exorcist-like spins, her eyes glaze and her cheeks and lips twitch, and then she finally utters, "Fascinating weport, John," all the while sporting a look at total bewilderment.

It's worth having John around just to see him "twit" Baba. To her, John might as well be living in a plasma universe and speaking JarJar Binks.

It's really pwiceless. MasterCard should do a spot on it.

Michael

I would add to Wright is right's comments that there seems to be a larger than normal amount of commercials during this show so ABC is definitely making money from John.

I don't know if the Car and Driver bit wasn't exactly what Stossel was talking about. That certainly was exploitation TV at it's best. The reporter made us afraid that the magazines were lying, and they never had Car and Driver represented or explained if they had asked them to appear, and then took the Government's spin.

It was funny to see a promo for the 11 O'Clock news and all the blood and falling concrete and homeless head-injured wanderers...

Yeah. Somehow he got ahold of the original version of Hitlery's appearance at an NYC firefighters' fund-raiser. Originally she was booed but when it was later rebroadcast on VH1 and made into a DVD, the booing was taken out at replaced w/cheering.

Maybe someone on the West Coast can get a webb-able copy of Hillary--for posterity, of course. We may never get a chance to see that on TV again.

Those earlier shots in the report were from Stossel's days as a liberal lemming (i.e. "consumer reporter). I am glad someone on broadcast TV has shown how absurd all the media scare tactics are.

Now, if Ann Coulter would do a TV version of her book, we'd have both sides of the coin: media scare tactics in the political and personal arenas.

I noticed how he did not deal with political bias.....I have no doubt in my mind ABC told him he could not discuss that issue if he was going to do a show on this matter at all. Thus, he decided a show criticizing the media to some extent is better than ignoring the issue at all (certainly he is right).

I wonder if he had an experience similar to Bernard Goldberg's when Goldberg wanted to do a story on political bias in the media. That said, I did notice a few things such as the Democrat confessional booth and the Hillary booing that made me wonder if this was his way of getting around the (possible) censorship.
