WASHINGTON, July 11 Following a recipe downloaded from the Internet and using gene sequences from a mail-order supply house, researchers have assembled a synthetic version of the polio virus to prove how easy it would be for terrorists to make deadly biological weapons.
TOPICS: Front Page News; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: anthrax; bioweapons; internet; polio; smallpox
First we've got Anthrax to worry about, then Smallpox, now Polio?

Further insinuation by the lamestream media that the internet must be controlled. Two to one the same recipe could be found at any large public library.

The polio virus is still out there in nature. People still get it naturally. The issue is not polio itself. The issue is what evil people can do with what's available out there. Pandora's box is opened wider.

Regardless of how easy information may be to obtain, mention of it by the media might give terrorists an idea they may otherwise not have had. It should be enough that the government realize these situations quietly and take necessary "reasonable" precautions. I cant help but wonder if the various news agencies don't have think tanks that sit around and brainstorm terrorist attack possibilities and doomsday scenarios in the hopes that they will beat the other agencies at scaring the hell out of sheeple.

I cant help but wonder if the various news agencies don't have think tanks that sit around and brainstorm terrorist attack possibilities and doomsday scenarios in the hopes that they will beat the other agencies at scaring the hell out of sheeple. I think without a doubt that is exactly true. Sensationalism and ratings is what they're after, regardless of anything else.

Two to one the same recipe could be found at any large public library. It probably could be, but most people now a days couldn't find the library, let alone find a book.

Pandora's box is opened wider. I disagree, using your own arguement: "The polio virus is still out there in nature. People still get it naturally."
Because its still out there, people are still vaccinated against polio, thereby reducing the potential for harm.

You miss my point, which is not about polio. It's about the fact that evil people can go here and there and get information they need to harm hundreds or thousands or millions of people indiscriminately. It's about Man acquiring knowledge and technology at a higher rate of speed than he acquires ethics, morals, etc.

Hmmmmm. The Stand? Hey! I haven't thought of that book in a long time. It would be a good one to re-read nowadays. Thanks for bringing it up.
