In Austin, Texas the environmental movement has succumbed to the Ayatollah Khomeni's tactics. Austin used to have green belts all over town that were visually pleasing, and made the city look like more than the typical concrete jungle.

The local Environmentalists demonized one local developer, a man named Jim Bob Moffit. Every time Mr. Moffit wanted to do anything in the way of development he was met with a storm of protests, lawsuits, and bad publicity. Almost all of Jim Bob Moffit's projects ended up going by the wayside, because of the Environmental movement, but That didn't stop development in Austin.

While all of the Environmentalists attention was focused on one man other developers moved in and got their projects fast-tracked through City Council. Soon the green belts began to disappear. At present much of it is gone. There have even been numerous developments above the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone that provides most of Austin, & San Antonio's water.

The Environmentalists have turned out to be pretty darned useless!

I don't know anything about Austin, but in New England we see this all the time. The smart developers open up their wallets and pay the politicians, the inspectors, the greens, everybody. The other developers sit around wondering why their projects never seem to get anywhere. :-(

Good article. Is it just me or are we starting to see more of this type of article in the media? If so, that definitely means the tide is a turnin'.

That's one way. I've FReepMailed you the full HTML, as well.

I have a ton of graphical tidbits on my website at http://www.joebrower.com/PHILE_PILE/

You and everyone are welcome to utilize any of these whenever you will. Helps me get my money's worth out of EarthLink!

And then there's the MTBE fiasco, the toxic refinery waste by-product turned mandated gasoline additive, originally marketed to clean the air, only to later be found as the source of terrible and expensive water pollution.

You really know how to ruin a kindly old Grampa's relaxing Sunday don't you!

The entire MTBE scandal should require that all of the envirals and their buddies, the phoney non profits can only drink water contaminated with MTBE. Then the enviral mediots who covered the lies on MTBE should have to shower and bath in MTBE three times each day. Then have to drink at least 8 glasses of MTBE contaminated water and breath pure MTBE vapors for the rest of their lives.

For a lot of fun in your life catch an enviral with a Club Sierra sticker on their Volvo filling up with gasoline. Go to their pump and point out the little sticker in the pump that says:

"Warning: Contains MTBE. MTBE has been shown to be harmful to the environment!

Then tap them on their miserable chest and say "Thank you, you miserable POS for your criminal action in getting MTBE into our gasoline! What do you have against a clean enviroment?"

They just stand there and soil their green Levis and Birkenstocks.

interesting topic from 2002.
"There should never have been an argument between the environmental movement and the private landowner," he said. "The Enviros' agenda is to destroy private land ownership. If America is to survive and prosper as intended by the Founding Fathers, her individual citizens must be allowed to own property... People used to bleep hideously that if you wipe out any single species, even impact the population, the whole world would be destroyed because the whole world is linked together... Consider this scenario: The population of great whales in the Antarctic is reduced to somewhere between slim and none. The single biggest appetite for krill (mini-shrimp) that ever existed was gone. The krill are now swarming the oceans. Nothing happened in the Antarctic – the sky didn't fall, the ice cap didn't melt, and no population crashed except the whales. There was not the slightest detectable change except the whales were not around. In due course, when we quit sticking sharp explosive charges into them, they came back, too. So the ecology turns out to be profoundly resilient." Jacobson sees the original environmentalism movement as a worthy cause that went bad due to its leaders' desire for power.
