This is an unofficial quick and dirty presidential poll. Apparently, there is a good sized contingent on Free Republic that believes that President Bush is:

1. Not conservative enough
2. Not pro-life
3. Is a gun-grabber
4. Is a federal power-grabber
5. Will appoint liberal judges
6. Is a globalist
7. Is in it just for oil
8. Is too soft on immigration
9. Is too soft (or too hard) on Israel
10. Is a crook
11. All of the above
12. None of the above
13. Other (you name it)

Please list the numbers that best match the reasons you don't like Bush (or state other reasons if not on the list) and state whether you believe that President Bush should be defeated even if it means installing a Democrat in the Whitehouse.

Conversely, if you believe President Bush should be re-elected, please state why.

Please state who you would like to see win the Presidency in 2004 and whether or not you believe he/she has a chance of winning.

Right. Some people will be against Bush because he can't make it rain in July. They forget the the Presidency has strict Constitutional limits on its power. Some of these same people will then go on to say that Bush is a power mongerer.
A Constitutionally limited Presidency + barely elected while losing the popular vote + 70 years of socialist/globalist government + a divided Congress = severe limits on what Bush can accomplish, especially in his first term. I say be glad we got him and work for a Republican landslide in '04!

Jesse Jackson provided the observtion that the president is "unliterate" just this week at the NAACP convention.

Yeah, I was just messing with you. Jackson's "unliterate" is to "literate" as "unilaterate" is to the Euros' whine that Bush is "unilateral."

But aren't we living in Very Strange Times when Everything is Changing? Who in heck woulda thought Jesse Ventura would be in a gov'ner's mansion?

It looks to me that a lot of people, right or wrong - but I beleive the number will increase as the economy sinks - don't see integrity in the last Prez or this one.

Whether that is fair or not is another matter. The economy has been half-fake for a Long time - much longer than Bush was in office - a reckoning was coming. Came under our watch. Bad luck there. But when the ship sinks the man at the helm takes the blame, fair or not, if I recall my history. Bush is being Hoovered. Still, if he is successfully Hoovered, then the lack of confidence will continue to destroy the market, which means they must find a Credible replacement. It's the sacrificial goat thing, but sometimes you Need a sacrificial goat. I'm putting this all on an entirely realistic basis from what I know of human nature and group behavior. We may need a Captain who looks like Total Mr. Clean when it comes to finances and such, because this storm is a money-storm.

Hit me in the head, and I can't agree with everything he says, but I do think that Pat Buchanan, for instance, projects an image of ferocious integrity and rock solid Americanism. I would be Really surprised if you can find anything at all dubious in his background. Maybe in this atmosphere of general disgust, he would pull a Lot more votes than people think.

Not that I'm saying it should be pat. It's a middle of the night poll and I haven't thought this out that much. I'm tired. I'm dismayed. The world is going to hell and who listens to me?

Or to any of us any more, other than to keep us quiet, throw us bones, and count on us when the going gets tough, even as they close their ears?

Okay, to answer your question - with Clinton tarred for everything, Bush for the economy (it's the economy, stupid) and maybe the electorate tired of both parties, which I think was evinced by the close election and dismal turnout - maybe a George Washington Honest guy would make people flock to the polls.

Of course, he'd be sabotaged by the current apparatus, and be getting it from both sides. That would be a problem.

I find your sarcasm tag unconvincing. The glee that the democrats are exhibiting over this "issue” and their moral "outrage" tells me one thing. Should the regain all 3 branches of government, they will completely take over every corporation that is dumb enough to stay in this country. The DNC is within one presidential election of tipping this country into the socialist column. Bush is once again walking a tight rope over a sea of sharks. This is no longer a political issue this is the future of this country.

I'm getting a little sick of the "first term" excuse. He's a third (and change) of the way through his first term and has a veteran team to help him navigate the minefield of Washington politics. Besides which, when have Dems voted against corporate oversight?

If he doesn't get on this tiger, before much longer the economy is going to tank and cost him any chance at a second term.

Well, a lot can happen in the next year or so, and who knows? Maybe some third party guy can shine like the blazes. But right now I think it's Bush all the way.

If Bush is nomunated again I will probably vote for him. But I am sick to death of voting for weak kneed wishy washy Republicans just because there is some hope they might not be as completely bad as the Democrat opponent.

I want blood! And I want it soon. I am a family oriented, patriotic,Christian small business person. I believe that American moral and constitutional principles are simple. Not fuzzy and in need of convoluted interpretation.

Why can't the GOP seem to field someone who will stand up for America and the folks like me who pay the bills and make things work? I have supported the Hell out of the Republican Party and am wondering when I can expect them to begin to reciprocate?

We have to do everything we can to work against Clinton/Gore. As far as I am concerned these people are dangerous and would destroy the country(or have they already or almost did on 9/11) or the world. Their power lies not just in this country but in Hillary and Bill's case-the whole world.

Whether one believes this or not, it was the higher forces, divine intervention, whatever you want to call it, that put George W. Bush in the White House in one way or another and must keep him there. He is a man of solid faith and steel but takes all the energy and help he can.

Trust me, the saying goes Power takes and Power corrupts.

If I am wrong about Bush's low intelligence level, and I don't believe I am wrong, and Bush is as intelligent as many here want me to believe, then that reclassifies his actions out of the category of beint merely pitiful, and into the area of being calculatingly destructive.
