12:57PM Halliburton responds to Judicial Watch lawsuit (HAL) by Michael Baron Halliburton (HAL) is off 30 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $13.82, in midday action. The company is out with a press release responding to a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, a Washington, D.C.-based legal watchdog group. The suit alleges fraudulent accounting practices at Halliburton took place during the period when current vice president Dick Cheney served as its chairman and CEO. Halliburton called the claims in the suit, "untrue, unsupported, and unfounded." The company continued: "We are working diligently with the SEC to resolve its questions regarding the company's accounting procedures. Halliburton has always followed and will continue to follow guidelines established by the SEC and GAAP, General Accepted Accounting Principles."

How many lawyers do you know, who submit their evidence to the public and the media before a trial?

Do you have proof of any fraudulent practices by Halliburton in 1996?

deport,

Arthur Anderson's involvement is enought to raise well founded suspicion.

Wrong. This case is too important for Larry to mess it up. I think that he realizes this too.

Larry Klayman. He presents every damn thing he has every time he elbows his way to a camera. His problem is that his "evidence" is not admissible in court.

Yeah and so was 99% of the country's corporations [in bed with Arthur Andersen] PLUS the United States Government. What the hell is your point?

Were they not GAAP.....

If so then every P/E ratio of publicly traded companies is suspect.

Why...... AA doesn't establish the GAAP..... which was used by Halliburton..... do they?

And what, praytell, is this? If this evidence does not fall under the exclusionary rule (and it doesn't), then submission of any evidence is the judge's decision, not yours.

BTW, Larry told Miami media that he had EVIDENCE that Juan Miguel Gonzalez requested asylum on more than one occasion while he was here in the US, and that Meissner/Reno turned him down.

When can we expect that evidence to be brought to light?

But we do not know how much of these fraudulent practices were already in place when Cheney was part of the company, even if they had "changed" their accounting practices.

OK .. I'm not lawyer but don't you have to have a case when you file suit

Sounds like to me .. not even you believe Larry has a case

Sounds to me that Larry is on a witch hunt in hope to find somehing

We do not know that there were any "fraudulent" practices in place, period. Exactly which "fraudulent" practices do you think existed?

"eww" doesn't have any evidence... just speculation at this stage..... but rest assured if the NYT or WP come up with a hint of something he'll include it in his next motion.

It is my firm belief that the Arthur Andersen accounting firm employed a lot of good people and did a lot of honest work for many, many corporations for tens of years.

It is also my firm belief that in later years they employed a few people who decided they could be bought for a price and climbed into bed with a few unscrupulous CEO's and CFO's and engaged in criminal activity including fraud.

Enron is a clear example of the later.

It is my firm belief that Halliburton will be proven a clear example of the former.

Not spooky at all Fred sorry. AA has been the premier accounting firm in this country for a very long time. However, Larry's suit has nothing to do with practices that have ruined AA's reputation, he just has not realized that yet. He is in way over his pointy little head.

Then why not go after other AA clients

It sounds like Larry is on a witch hunt

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm and who could be backing him on this??
