CBS Market Watch "Big Charts" Web Site ^ | 7/10/2002 | MarketWatch.com

12:57PM Halliburton responds to Judicial Watch lawsuit (HAL) by Michael Baron Halliburton (HAL) is off 30 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $13.82, in midday action. The company is out with a press release responding to a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, a Washington, D.C.-based legal watchdog group. The suit alleges fraudulent accounting practices at Halliburton took place during the period when current vice president Dick Cheney served as its chairman and CEO. Halliburton called the claims in the suit, "untrue, unsupported, and unfounded." The company continued: "We are working diligently with the SEC to resolve its questions regarding the company's accounting procedures. Halliburton has always followed and will continue to follow guidelines established by the SEC and GAAP, General Accepted Accounting Principles."

"...it has become obvious that the government is not doing its job with overseeing these huge corporations and accounting practices..."

Call me silly, but please explain to me where it is the government's job to oversee private industry?

The worst thing that Bush is doing in regards to this situation is by not intervening to stop this IRS audit.

So, is JW on some kind of vendetta to get the audit stopped?

You simply refuse, in your naivete, to accept that JW, an organization which has never won a single lawsuit, is a business which must do profit and loss analysis on a regular basis.

Profit is Klayman's objective, and he will tailor his litigation to maximize that objective.

For others, (like me), that are legal definition deprived:

barratry
n. creating legal business by stirring up disputes and quarrels, generally for the benefit of the lawyer who sees fees in the matter. Barratry is illegal in all states and subject to criminal punishment and/or discipline by the state bar, but there must be a showing that the resulting lawsuit was totally groundless. There is a lot of border-line barratry in which attorneys, in the name of being tough or protecting the client, fail to seek avenues for settlement of disputes or will not tell the client he/she has no legitimate claim.

"It's all of those .25c or was it .45c posting royalties."

Hey! If you're going to talk about me, you should at least ping me. I'm not so senile that I don't know when I'm being talked about.

BTW, all of the people here at the home are OUTRAGED that I was done out of my 2000th post. Of course, you know that the only reason that I lost was that I couldn't get my walker over to the keyboard fast enough.

I have this incredible bad feeling that Ticky Dick Cheney and his cohorts at Halliburton have something to hide.

It's pretty obvious by the hunker down mode the nameless Halliburton conglomerate has assumed.

Why don't we get names and reputations on the line, rather than "Halliburton says...."?

Well, you certainly know how to acquire information rapidly. That is at just about as valuable a quality as having the information to begin with.

Luis, do me a favor and go read up on U.S. Supreme Court cases concerning the Commerce Clause, especially during the Child Labor and Labor Reform era.

Yoiu can set regulation, and you can establish fines or punishment.

Then you can set to trial those that break the law.

By the way, it's good to have you back here.
