I see one signed-up-today troll. I have a feeling we're looking at liberalism=failure, he of the "must-read" cop-bashers-suck vanity yesterday.

There's a vast difference between being a law-and-order conservative (among whose number I count myself), and rubber-stamping
anything any policeman ever does. Without question, the race-baiting Left is exploiting the hell out of this videotape. That doesn't mean the police were automatically in the right.
Perhaps something will emerge to vindicate the suspended officer. Meanwhile, it *looks like* he went too far with a surrounded and cuffed suspect.

Let's leave aside the issue of whether this was a cop or not for a moment. As a man I fight my own battles. If someone pops me I handle it in the moment. I don't handle it when my buddies subdue him, place his hands behind his back and slam him down on the hood of a car for me. Once the individual is subdued, I don't walk up when he's completely defenseless and use my fist on his face.
Now, this is a police officer. He had every right to defend himself. He had every right to use force on the perp if the perp was attacking him. But when the kid was subdued and in custody, neither the officer or his fellow officers had the right to bash the kid on the hood of the patrol car or to take it further as these police officers did.
Any of this making sense to you?
Only and spineless wimp would strike a guy while his buds held him down. I don't give a damn if it's an officer or not!

If the kid was still fighting, regardless of whether handcuffs were in place, the cops are permitted to restraint him. They did not shoot him, they restrained him.

Is that you, liberalism=failure?

Wow..I'm suddenly not allowed to have a small bit of doubt about the situation without being labled a "liberal"? You are really stretching far to lable anyone who feels that all LEO's are untouchable Gods as liberals.
Look, it's obvious you are just a disruptor troll from DU or Smirking Chimp. That, or a longtime troublemaker that keeps getting kicked out of FR. Don't you guys have your own boards to cause problems on?

The answer is quite simple:
FR is now the repository of so many libertarians and conspiracy theorists that calm, rational thought is screamed down as soon as it appears.
The libertarians are apoplectic over the thought that cops might take away their "right" to ruin your neighborhood with drugs, prostitution and abortion mills; Conspiracy theorists think that the Commies are under their beds and the cops are evil miscreants out of a John Woo actioner, waiting to kick in their doors and send them to concentration camps.
Simply put, there are a lot of crackpots and nuts here lately.
To: one_particular_harbour
"They've pressed home a message that law and order conservatives just don't like ni**ers and sp**s - and you are fulfilling every one of their notions."
You play the race card, you call for extreme penalties, you play their propaganda tune note for note. and yet *I* confirm their notions? You've got that one backwards, but then liberals usually do.
Next time somebody hurts, rapes or kills one of your family feel free to call Maxine and see what she does for you.

And then, of course, there are the conspiracy theorists who think that the libertarians are under their beds, waiting to feed them drugs and make them have sex with prostitutes, since that's the only thing any libertarian cares about - right?

LibBasher is clearly liberalism=failure, who was banned for posts on
this thread yesterday. Best to just ignore him.

Without question, the race-baiting Left is exploiting the hell out of this videotape. That doesn't mean the police were automatically in the right. Indeed. I do not know if law-and-order conservatism is dead, but I am pleased to note that the rumors of the death of common sense are greatly overstated.
To deny that there are a few officers who abuse their authority is tantamount to willful blindness, IMO. It seems to me that a true law-and-order conservative has a vested interest in rooting out those few wrongdoers as quickly and efficiently as possible, so that they do not taint the vast majority of honest, hardworking men and women in uniform.

I would hope that 8 years of
Clinton/Reno have taught us the value of
civil liberties conservatism. Of course, if you like Clinton/Reno's shreding of the Constitution, perhaps you'll like President Hillary.

Who needs Al Sharpton and Maxine Waters when we've got you guys?Let a jury determine the damages.
